The whole ambience of the black horse is first class. Beautiful location quiet and scenic , the furnishings are of a very high standard , this is followed through to the bedding, large comfy beds, up market luxury furnishings to the comfortable bathroom. This place ranks very high indeed. The breakfast was delicious ,we had the full English , lots of other choices. Just 5 minutes from the Beamish museum.

I loved the location, 'No Place, co. Durham' :-D The people are lovely; the food is great - had the liver and onions- wow! Great atmosphere, lovely log fire smoldering in the corner; locals chatting over a pint.. Shout out to Deborah, Jack and Beth for warm welcome after a hard drive in the dark and the rain. And Simon, an exceptional and interesting man who cooks a great breakfast. And the lovely ginger lady whose name I'm sorry I don't know, who welcomed me Thursday evening and was a lovely host.

We stayed in Stanley due to the proximity to the Beamish open air museum just a short drive away. The bluebell inn, just a short walk from the Ball Alley, is a restruant within a pub, not a pub serving food. The food had a turkish theme and was wonderful. I will return if in the area again.

The hotel is in a glorious setting. It had a luxurious feel. Our ground floor room was stunning. Breakfast and dinner were very good though we enjoyed dinner very much it was costly which could put us off staying longer. That said Bed and Breakfast was fairly priced and the staff is a credit to the hotel. The receptionist was warm and welcoming and this was consistent throughout the hotel. We had a special stay.

The purpose of our stay was to be close to the Beamish Museum. Beamish working museum was amazing and would highly recommend; it has lots of interesting areas to visit. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. There was regular transport to get you around the site. Plenty of food stations and places to rest. Beamish is a must and still adding more interesting historical attractions. The fish and chips are a must, you could buy a smaller portion called a Dab - more than enough; cooked in traditional beef dripping which brought some memories. A fabulous trip down memory lane. Remember to charge your mobile as there are lots of pictures to be taken. We visited a pub called The Blue Bell, with Turkish cuisine which was very tasty. Nicely decorated, and warm and inviting. Staff very friendly. The Ball Alley was situated in a great spot to enable to easily access Beamish, it was also situated near a garage & shop. There is much more to visit if you check out local attractions but we had to be off early to get home.

Great hotel, basic (double bed, nice bathroom with shower, TV in room and storage for clothes etc) but very clean, stayed here for a wedding at South Causey Inn which was only 5 mins away in a taxi. Beamish museum only a short distance away, in fact you pass Beamish on your way to this hotel. Staff are lovely and friendly, would deffo recommend this hotel, really cheap aswell, we only paid £72 for the night, was absolutely ideal.
