A perennial seaside favourite of ours over the years, always busy but not too commercialised. A great beach. Access to other resorts eg Saltburn, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough is available by public transport and there is the opportunity to ride on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway. Plenty of things to do for all ages. The open topped bus will take you up to the abbey ( and Abbey Brewery with its outside sitting area) if you don’t fancy climbing the 199 steps up there. Plenty of great fish restaurants, our favourite is Mr Chips on Church Street ( don’t be put off by the name, it’s excellent). The Angel Hotel ( a Wetherspoons) is always good value and provides good value accommodation. There are also Indian, Thai, Italian and Turkish restaurants to choose from. Choose your accommodation carefully if anyone in your party has walking difficulties as Whitby is quite hilly in places and there are lots of steps up (and down) to some properties and cobbled streets to negotiate.Guest review byPeteUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Whitby is a beautiful place.
Whitby is a beautiful place. It's full of history from the Abbey to Dracula. It has lovely walks and places to eat. One of my favorites is The Magpie, they do amazing fish and chips. You can go on a boat ride. You can see the fishermen bringing in their catch. The beach is beautiful for all the family. You can easily walk around. There's something for everyone.

Nice seaside town an good to walk around (its very hilly). Walked up to the Abbey ruins (199 steps) and its worth the climb for the views and what you see of the old Abbey. Lots of place to eat and a number of pubs to rehydrate at. We went mid September and it was busy; 'peak periods' may be a challenge although we walked the 15 minutes from where we stayed so not a real problem.Guest review byAlex BowlerAustralia - 10.0

It's a fantastic sea side town with an excellent beach, arcades, restaurants and walks. The best restaurant for fish and chips is Trenchers for tasty food, cleanliness and ambiance. There is usually a 10-15 minute queue but it's well worth the wait. Take a boat ride, a walk up to the very old Abbey and make sure to walk the side streets as there are lots of shops in Whitby.Guest review byDeanUnited Kingdom

It was clean, warm and comfortable with a view of the Abbey over the rooftops. The breakfast was fair but I thought the bacon was too hard to cut or eat, sausage ok and the fried egg was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I booked the hotel by searching whitby hotel with parking however didn't realise this was street parking if you can find a space or in a car park away from the hotel. Everything is done and finished to a great standard. The staff make this hotel, so pleasantly smiley, chatty and helpful. They can do enough for you. Love the golf buggy trips to and from the beach house hotel to the main hotel, all part of the experience. The food and spa are also very good. A short taxi ride into Whitby or 45min walk. The hotel is a short drive or good walk into whitby so quiet enough but close enough. The facilities were clean and had everything you would need - iron available from reception. The room was very spacious and quite grand with a comfy bed and the shower facilities were clean and modern.
