Tris provided a wonderful array of self-serve breakfast foods including fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt coffee, tea, granola, etc. The room was cozy and clean. The shower was wonderful, and there were many things provided that a traveler might not have on hand. We had a great time reading through his guest book and even left our own little doodle! Tris was there to help with anything that might come up. By far, the best experience of our trip, and we'd happily stay again given the opportunity.

Although this was a very last minute, one night only booking, and we didn't get to experience the full package right down to breakfast or dinner, the hotel 150% met our expectations. Room was spacious, clean with modern, also very clean bathroom. Couldn't have asked for better. Will definitely book The Ship Inn again should we find ourselves in the area.

Me and my friends all read a lot and we enjoyed the bookshops in Wigtown very much. We also visited Whithorn and a nature reserve outside Whithorn which we enjoyed very much. It was our first trip to Dumfries and Galloway, so was exploring it a bit. We all would like to come back again. We ate out in the middle of the day both days and had really good food. We were only there for 2 full days so couldn't see and do a lot, I do want to go back again to explore a lot more. And I would stay for longer.

To be honest, it wasn't just Wigtown, but many villages and towns throughout the area, that simply don't lend themselves to eating out in the evening. When you're self catering, AND you have access to a reasonable supermarket, it's probably less of a problem, but if you're in a B&B, you're at a disadvantage. It's easy to be complacent if you live in an urban town, but clearly footfall is more of a problem in Dumfries & Galloway, unlike the other tourist hotspots in Scotland. Some places don't even have a local pub, so forward planning is essential.

The book shops are great, we went on a Monday and not all shops or cafes were open. Would recommend the Cobweb café, friendly service and lovely food. Loved that we could park on the main street - easy to drop off the books we purchased before moving on to other shops.

Wigtown is a stunning location to explore Dumfries and Galloway. Beautiful village with a very good choice of shops, cafes and especially book shops. Lovely architecture and places of interest to easily walk from the village. Pretty community garden in the centre of the village. Vibrant community spirit with activities, services and events posted throughout the village. Although we did not use, there appeared to be a good bus service. The locals were very friendly and offered suggestions for walks and places to visit.

It was difficult to find anywhere local to eat in the evening, a number of local pubs and restaurants have closed or are only open occasionally. On Thursday night there was nowhere nearby to eat as the local Cobwebs restaurant ( where we enjoyed an very good meal on the Wednesday) is closed on Thursday and even the chip shop was only open on Friday and Saturday night. The Bladdennoch inn nearby was open for food but only by chance as the chef was in to prepare for the weekend and served passing customers up until 7:30! A number of the shops also have what could be described as flexible opening hours - some of them were never open during our stay, which slightly spoiled our visit.

Wigtown is Scotland's official book town, as such, there are a lot of second hand bookshops and plenty of bargains to be had. ReadingLasses bookshop is also a fabulous cafe with the best cakes I have ever tried. A walk to the Marshes is a must and there are lovely walks all around, if you are looking for a peaceful respite this is a fabulous place

Good location on the edge of Wigtown, the ‘Book Capital of Scotland’, but only a short walk into town. We had a comfortable en-suite room named ‘Ring of Bright Water’ and themed after the author Gavin Maxwell. We had planned ahead and booked an evening meal of home cooked chicken curry and lasagne. Both dishes were tasty and plentiful. Breakfast in the morning was cooked to order and superb. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. Thank you for making us feel welcome.

Well modernised house with plenty of space for our family of four. The small, private garden was great for the kids to run about it and the bedrooms were comfortable and cosy. Parking was very convenient and everything you could possibly need was ready and available. Location wise, it's just on the edge on Wigtown, and the views over the bay are beautiful.

Very warm welcome. Beautifully presented self contained accommodation with everything we needed. Very quiet location with great views. Just a walk away from Wigtown. Will definitely like to return. There were obviously a large amount of well thought out activities for families including the indoor pool.

Great location. Spacious house and a lovely garden. We spent a lot of time in the conservatory enjoying the light and sitting at the garden table. Very handy for Wigtown, Galloway House Gardens and Rigg Bay, Isle of Whithorn and the Galloway forest. Clean and well equipped. Would love to come again
