The room was very nicely decorated and had all the necessary amenities. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms are in a side building from the pub, hence very quiet. The car park was spacious. Thanks to Kathleen for making me feel very welcome, I will certainly stay here again when in the area!

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

The York Minster guided tour was super and exploring the Crypt and Under Croft were interesting, but overpriced. The £20 lasted 12 months but we are unlikely to be able to visit again in that time frame The Viking Centre was also super as long as you spent time with the expert guides, who were very knowledgeable and keen to talk on their subject The York Chocolate Story was light weight I enjoyed walking the city walls, took a while to go all the way around Shambles Food court and Spark were good place to get filling food at reasonable prices, other restaurants were more London prices Lively pubs with plenty of live music Also lots to do if you have a car and can visit Harrogate, Whitby, The Moors, Castle Howard and much more

The FREE walking tour which meets in Exhibition Square is terrific and it is actually free. No tips accepted. The railway museum is fun and worth the walk. We ate at Raj (Indian) and Fish & Forest. The first was very good and the second was great. Both are worth eating at.

Lovely room with an en suite bathroom. Comfortable rooms with everything you need for an overnight stay. Mark was extremely helpful and lovely throughout the whole duration of our stay. He helped us to park at the accommodation and allowed us early entry into our room, he offered advice on the local area and best things to go and see with lots of history too! The hotel was quiet with the other guests and was in the most perfect location for York City centre. Would highly recommend booking here for your stay in York. Thank you!

A comfortable and charming hotel located a few miles outside York. There is plenty of parking available at the hotel, plus a bus stop right outside the drive entrance where you can catch a bus into York City Centre. There is also a Designer Outlet and a Park and Ride facility not too far away. We found the hotel staff to be friendly and welcoming, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them if it made your stay better. The choice at breakfast was excellent. We would certainly stay here again next time we come to York

Good location for York city centre. There is a bus stop opposite and a 15 min bus journey that takes you into town much easier and cheaper than parking the car. Gorgeous hotel with a lot of history, outstanding food. The staff were highly professional but extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in a courtyard room with a view of the beautiful gardens. Lovely spa facilities too. Cannot fault this hotel, would highly recommend.
