Almirida has not changed much in the last 20 years. Some great Tavernas right on the beach and the beach itself is sheltered and safe for swimming. Although on some occasions it can get a bit windy. Almyrida is a really small and quiet village. No crowds of tourists and no loud bars. Just a beautiful sea, a peaceful main street, and very tasty taverns and restaurants (Psaros was the best). The location of the villa was perfect, uphill from the town, which made it a peaceful, relaxing holiday spot. There are plenty of tavernas a short walk downhill - perfect for an evening meal followed by viewing the stars from the balcony on our return. Small beach town with everything near by. All the restaurants we tried were good. You need to book for some of them. There are walks from the village which are quite hilly. it takes 20 mins to walk up to Plaka. Almirida itself is very flat. Good bus service to Chania. Beautiful views. It was really well equipped, modern and comfortable with fantastic views and we were able to walk to both Almyrida (10 mins) and Kalyves (25 mins) (although a very steep walk down a track). Villa owner was incredibly kind and helpful and responded quickly when needed. The pool was perfect and the teens liked the gym equipment and table tennis.
