    We loved Athens overall.

We loved Athens overall. I'm amazed at the graffiti everywhere, but we found this to be true in all the places we visited including Naples, Barcelona, Madrid, Marseille and Palermo to name a few. Beyond that, the city was not dirty as some had told us previously. We visited in September which we thought might be a little off peak. Weather was perfect however crowds were still huge. The number of tourists is a testament to the popularity of this city. We plan on visiting again and staying longer. We walked a lot and found it easy to get from one place to another. Through all the core neighborhoods, there are numerous restaurants, bars and shops. It is fun to just get lost in the winding streets. We loved Psyrri Square... the restaurants in the square had outdoor seating and live Greek music. It was a perfect setting.

We especially loved the city’s rich history, the lively and cultural shopping streets, the beautiful architecture, and the sightseeing buses thoughtfully designed for tourists. The only thing we wished for was a cable car to make visiting the Acropolis a bit easier.

The place without love from its citizens.

The place without love from its citizens. Athens has such a great potential but wastes it everywhere. This city is not for sick/old/pregnant people, or people with children. Be ready for motorways inside the city. The city is full of cats that are afraid of people. Trash is in every possible corner of the city. During my stay, I saw only one clean street - the one with tourists Buses are unstable and don't always come. Trams work as scheduled but windows are covered with ads so you can't normally look outside. Panteon and The Temple of Zeus are empty - let people of Athens put all their creativity instead of graffiti into creating art objects for old and empty places Also, if you hate the smell of cigarettes, then this place is not for you. People were smoking even in a cat cafe. Athens has pluses but they are only about food: coffee is cheap, nice and everywhere; food in restaurants is generally not that expensive and has a stable 7+/10

Athens is a very busy city which is quite overwhelming at first but the people are really friendly and the public transport is very accessible. The central sites are easy to reach on food and for those a little further out the metro system is easy to use. You can buy tickets for all of the sites in advance which means you don't need to queue. the Acropolis and the Agora are fantastic and we also visited the Archeological museum which was reached by metro, this was a fabulous museum. We went at the end of September so the temperature was in the early 20s.

Apart from the Acropolis, Athens has nothing to speak about.

Apart from the Acropolis, Athens has nothing to speak about. I visited Athens in 2005 and it was a clean and pleasant, prosperous city, but has declined over those twenty years. The dirt and graffiti in the centre are more akin to a third world country, and doesn't appear to be getting any better. I would avoid Athens in future, except for airport transfer.
