Good beach with beds and shades.

Good beach with beds and shades. Lovely clear water, great place to swim. Nice tavernas. Great backdrop of the white mountains and the castle when you are in the water. Not too many people in October but can imagine it would be crowded in high season. Surrounding area is dry rocky and barren. Come for the beach and Imbros gorge but not for a scenic walk.

Frangokastello is an amazing place for people who value the unspoiled nature and wonderful beaches, it is wild and gorgeous with the mountains on the one side and sea on the other. The area offers great gorges and paths for hiking, the beaches are very clean and beautiful. The tavernas offer great local food and there are many apartments with great quality.

Wild and wonderful corner of South Crete, with not many turists. Frangokastello offers the possibility to know sea and mountains, beaches are beautiful and of different typologies (sandy, pebbles, cliff). Tavernas (fish and/or meat) are numerous and of very good quality, not at all expensive

I liked the hosting family very much, who did their best to make us comfortable after we complained about our first night there with no hotwater or view of Sea as advertised.We were moved upstairs to a better room. We enjoyed walking to the bakery for fresh bread and baked goods and a good supermarket was near. Also a good bay for swimming and lots of naturewalks in area but you need a car. Took ferry to Agia Roumeli whereas walked to a part of the Samaria gorge from the south

We are regular visitors to Frango.

We are regular visitors to Frango. It is a beautiful quiet location with a great selection o. While there are 4 or 5 tavernas near the Venetian castle tavernas ( Avoid Drousillites) the rest are spread out over 3/4 kilometres from Vatalos (Sfakia direction) on the west to Zorbas (highly recommended on the east (Plakias direction) Three distinct beach areas 1. Orthi Amnos long golden beach reached directly by steps near the beautiful Paradisos/Fata Morgana complex. 2. The Venetian castle again golden sands and water that remains shallow for a couple of hundred metres so very suitable for young kids or nervous swimmers/paddlers. 3. Near Stavros Taverna and Stavris Apartments and and stone beach with free sunbeds under shady trees. ( buy a drink or meal at the tavernas. Frango stretches over a flat plateau-like area (about 6Km X 3km oval shape locked between the Libyan sea and the impress Lefka Ori mountains close to the IMBROS GORGE. A car is very useful but not essential. Bicycles are wonderful alternative and some apartments provide these complimentary. For us the heart of the community is the Taverna Kali Cardia (Good Heart) run by Thanassos and his son Alexi. Always good company and with fabulous traditional home-cooked Cretan meals. We have been travelling here for over 25 years and regularly encounter friends on return visits in this homely taverna.

We loved southern Crete.

We loved southern Crete. Much less built up and touristy than the north. The beaches are nice and gently sloping - amazing turquoise water. We had a day when the wind was really blowing but otherwise it was beautifully calm and enjoyable. Great place to explore more of the southern coast from.

The location, the hosts, the laid back area of Frangokastello and the walk to the local supermarket to buy supplies. We used this hotel as our base as we explored the southern side of Crete. The restaurant is located onsite and we had dinner there on our first day and enjoyed local Cretan food. We would have loved to eat there more, but we were so busy travelling around to Lake Kournas, Palace of Phaistos, Souda beach and the nearby castle. The owners were very helpful and kind. It's a local experience and we loved staying here.

We had a lovely vacation at Kritamos beach. Valantis welcomed us when we arrived late and was very serviceminded both before the trip answering questions and during the stay. The apartment was well equiped and the cleaning was spotless. The staff was so friendley. The beach was amazing with some trees for shadow. Its a place for relaxation and explore nature, the surroundings are so beatiful with the mountains and the ocean. I would love to visit again.

Fantastic location, off the beaten track. Spacious studio with working air conditioning and cleaning and change of towels being provided every other day. The rooms are very basic but they are comfortable and functional. We loved the people who looked after the hotel - everyone was very helpful and polite. The hotel is practically on the beach and there is a supermarket and a couple of tavernas within walking distance.

Beautiful location in the middle of an olive grove, incredibly peaceful and quiet. Very big and clean pool with plenty of sunbeds, garden tables and chairs, even a few hammocks. In the pool bar free coffee for the guests. The beaches in the vicinity were very different - from sandy to pebble ones, The biggest asset of the hotel is its host - Tom. Thank you Tom for your uttermost hospitability and generosity!
