Matala is something different and when you there you just...
Matala is something different and when you there you just fell in love. Of course if you are looking for the crystal clear water, Matala is not the one, even though the surronding landscape is something beautiful. Nights in Matala can't be boring. There is always something to do and have fun. It is defenitley worth a visit.

Matala is one of those places you didn't know you needed to...
Matala is one of those places you didn't know you needed to visit until you go.. and then never want to leave. A long, sandy beach, with beautiful clear water, Matala is big enough to have a wide selection of places to eat & shop and yet not be too big. And in Scala & George's Yard it has two very, VERY good restaurants.

Such a beautiful little seaside village that comes to life at night. Could have stayed longer and enjoyed the views, vibes and people. Also we found the pricing cheaper for food and drinks. I must stop

The room was clean and relatively new looking.
The room was clean and relatively new looking. There is no wifi or tv in room. They have wifi at the bar and should be able to get it to rooms with routers but have not bothered. The bed was a disaster, it was hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on. My wife and I both hardly slept and had sore back in the morning. We have been travelling for over 5 weeks had no problem with any other beds.

There is a great vibe at Matala that differs from the rest...
There is a great vibe at Matala that differs from the rest of Creta. The hippie feel is true. We caught live music the night we were there and it was the best moment.
This along with the red beach - strongly recommend.

Matala is a tourist hot spot.
Matala is a tourist hot spot. So a lot of restaurants there, lot of tourist shops with souvenirs and a lot of people. The beach itself is not that big, but it was nice though. I mean it really depends on what you are looking for. I am more fond of less crowded and less touristy places, so perhaps next time I would look for something more matching my preferences. On the other hand there is nothing wrong about Matala at all. All the people there are very friendly. Really it depends on what you prefer...

When we arrived, the host, Nektarios, immediately took me for a walk through Matala to get to know the place and give us some tips, at all times being very friendly.
The apartment looks just like in the pictures, and they are located in the very center of Matala. The beach is 10m away, very convenient. The beach and water are beautiful, and there are very nice places to eat out. Aside from the Matala beach, there is another very nice one, 25min hike by foot, called Red beach

Very cozy and quiet hotel with friendly and helpful owner and staff. Stunning view to the mountain's. Lovely cats walking around. Big pool, where you can easily swim. Perfect localization. We always prefer small familiy objects instead of big modern hotels, because only there you are able to feel the spirit of the Crete.

Wonder clean stay in excellent walking distance from the beach. Matala was a beautiful place and Amalia was perfectly situated. Nice little fridge with a usable small freezer. Bed was very comfy. The room was very clean.

Location of this hostel is great, only a short walk from Matala beach. The hostel feels like home, ideal if you are a woman travelling solo!

Nice hotel in front of Matala beach, 3 mins walk from the center of town.
Rooms basic, clean and comfortable with air con.
Breakfast was plentiful. Pleasant staff. Overall good value for menu.
