Tiny village with a great atmosphere. We attended to a traditional event, with cretese music and dances, and in the area you can find very interesting historical sites. The beaches are very close and nice (the coast is facing east, so there are no waves in case the strong wind is blowing). Our favourite beaches have been Kouremenos for windsurfing and Itanos/Paralia for swimming. The best restaurants we tried are Mythos in the village centre and Elia in the close village of Agathias that you can reach on foot in ten minutes. Pharmacy, restaurants, shops, markets. Relaxed small village, nice restaurants and far away from the crowds. Perfect for windsurfing holiday, you need to like the wind. We visited it in July and it was relatively quiet, and started to be busy towards the end of the month. Palekastron is a nice wee village, perfect for exploring the east of Crete. It is close to plenty wonderful beaches both North and South in the Lassithi prefecture. Palekastron is a nice peaceful village with some good tavernas, where you can taste a very good food at a reasonable price. It is about 1,5 km away from the Kouremenos beach. Palekastron is also a good starting point to visit Vai and another nice beach a few km further on (near the archeologic site) in one direction (to the north) and Zakros with it's very attractive beach in another direction (to the south). Check-In was easy and quick. There are several restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel that can be reached by foot. We did not use the pool, but it looked clean. The breakfast was okay for one night, though we would have appreciate a bigger selection of fresh and healthy options for a longer stay.
