We enjoyed San Pedro. it was picturesque with the beautiful lake and mountains. It was walkable, also easy to get a TukTuk. If you walk up the hill into the village, you get past the tourist streets and see local life. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. Many of the restaurants had seating that looked out over the lake. The souvenir market sellers are not pushy. We went to a Mayan museum, Tzunun' Ya'. It was informative about the formation of the lake and the traditional life of the Mayan people. After one week in San Marcos which is great I got borred and went to the most popular tourist village on the lake San Pedro which is more authentic, cheaper, full of good restaurants and bars. San Pedro La Laguna is a great spot to experience Lake Atitlan. There are a lot of activites such as paddleboarding, taking a tuktuk to San Juan, visiting the mercado or doing Spanish school. Quiet as in you're not hearing tuktuks, taxis, drunk ppl screaming (as can be the case if you stay in el centro- the center). Unfortunately some noisy dogs that bark at night and in the morning, which can be so hit or miss anywhere you stay in Guatemala and in San Pedro. The couple who owns the hotel is mostly very nice and sweet. The man can be a bit rude and standoffish. We stayed for 4 nights and they emptied the bins and changed our towels regularly which was a treat when travelling. Our bed was big and comfortable. No air conditioning but a fan in the room.
