We travel to Eger for thermal spas. There are 5 within 15 minutes from Eger: 1 in Eger, 3 in Demjen, 1 in Egerszalok. Instead of staying in resorts we choose stay in Eger, not far from historic center with unique atmosfere and lots of reastaurants. Eger is not crowded. Eger is a picturesque town with many sites to visit.
Eger is a picturesque town with many sites to visit. Perhaps the most famous is the Castle (Vár) where a small group of defenders successfully stopped a Turkish attack of an army of almost 100.000 people in 1552. The Turkish were able to occupy this area only 40 years later. There is an old University building with an astronomy study (planetaruim and camera obscura) in its tower and a huge library where even codexes are in stock. There is a huge basilica, and many restaurants and wine tasting places where you can taste the vines of Eger, red and white. There is a thermal bath and you can make trips to the nearby Bükk mountains.Guest review byLendvayHungary - 10.0

Very nice public baths. Beautiful square. Lots of see and good food. We didn't get to the Wine caves because they were closed when we were there, but we really loved this friendly little town and wished we had planned more days. It is a historic town with many beautiful historic sites, the largest Basilica in Hungary, the oldest castle nicely renovated, with a lot of history to learn. Pretty little town with lots of history.
Pretty little town with lots of history. The medieval fort on top of the hill is a must see. The food is delicious at the restaurants and the price is reasonable. The wine cellars of Szepasszonyvolgy are a great place to taste the famous Eger wines. Also there are two thermal baths in town wort to visit. Standard as in a good hotel, comfortable mattresses in the beds, bathroom with a hairdryer and cosmetics. We appreciated the attention to detail, such as mosquito nets in the windows, or good WiFi. A very small but private backyard with seating and a fire pit for a barbecue. Great contact with the owner, who makes sure that nothing is missing. The location of the property is very convenient and close to the attractions, city center and train stop to Bukki national park. The host (husband and wife) are very friendly and nice.
