Esztergom is not a big city and it gives opportunities for travelers to walk to most of the sights. The importance of the city on the Danube was high and it is rich in history. The seat of the head of the Hungarian Catholic church is in Esztergom and the cathedral is stunningly beautiful with a cafe in the dome part, which provides uncomparable view of the city and the surroundings. With the basilica looming above it, there's a real sense of history about this town. Very filmic atmosphere. Lovely river frontage and great cycleways and walkways. Esztergom is a charming little town, with pretty streets and a wonderful cathedral to visit. It's easy walking distance everywhere. We ate in the evening in a great restaurant not far from the river called Mediterraneo, which we would thoroughly recommend. We were just stopping for one night of our cycle tour however it was clear that the Hungarian guests were having a great time enjoying the facilities on offer. The food was not particularly to our taste but again the other guests were making the most of the variety of food offered. The staff were helpful and let us store our bikes safely in a conference room. The bedroom was large, clean and well fitted out. The location was perfect for our cycle tour.
