If you really need to visit Kolkata (which I'd advice against) and you'd like to stay in a convenient central location at a reasonable price, Hotel Cecil should be your number one choice. Go for the King's Suite (the other rooms are rather small) and enjoy. The staff are really helpful and super nice, which I appreciated. There's a chance of a good night's sleep too because the beds are really comfy.

Perfect pickup at the airport - they greeted me at the luggage belt, so I didn't have to go and look for a driver, which is very much appreciated.
