Slightly quirky, remote town, with an interesting harbour. A few good places to eat/drink, and plenty to see and do around the surrounding peninsula - national park, hiking volcanoes, whale-watching, and even trying fermented shark. Only a couple of hours from Reykjavik but this place feels...
Only a couple of hours from Reykjavik but this place feels very much away from it all. The roads in and out aren't the easiest depending on the weather. We visited in early April and got stuck in snow (twice!) on the way in taking the northern road then feared getting stuck due to road closures and difficult driving conditions on the way out but we made it. Our room was a good size. The breakfast - which was included - was good. They offered all day free tea, coffee and biscuits. In the evening they were happy for us to ‘picnic’ in their breakfast room.
