Arpino is my family home.
Arpino is my family home. Parents grew up there so it is a familiar village for myself. It has changed significantly over the last 60 years -lots of small businesses gone. The community spirit still exists in the month of August - lots of events going on. If you want to experience Arpino at night then avoid the week of the Gonfalone. It's madness. So much history in the village as it dates back to Julius Caesar's time. Not for the fainthearted though if you want to explore all the narrow alleys. Views are breathtaking. Very pretty and historical town with beautiful palazzi. The restaurant scene was very disappointing. A couple of basic trattorias within walking distance but no elegant or atmospheric eating places. We drove a mountain road to get there, only to find out later that we were going to another place to pick up the keys, so we spent the night at the place where we picked up the keys, not the style shown in the picture. The grocery had good local wine, cheese, and bread for picnics along Camino di San Benedetto. I picked this agriturismo because of the reviews for dinners. Unfortunately, during the week, in the off season, they don’t cook, unless they know that there will be enough diners.
