Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso.
Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso. There are only three restaurants in the town, all of them very good ( we tried all three) but considering slim options advanced booking is a must ; we also had a feeling that they cater for only one sitting per evening. Be sure to visit also Ristoro Muciante which s some 20 km away - a self catering facility where you buy their meet, cheese and side dishes as well as drinks and grill them by yourself ( during peak season be ready for a long waiting lines - we were there after the main ferragosto time but still waited for half an hour).Guest review byMarjutkaSlovenia - 10.0

This is essentially a review of Fonte Cerreto, as the hotel I stayed in is not in Assergi. Fonte Cerreto is very small, and is really just the base for exploring the Gran Sasso in the summer. It is probably also a good base for exploring the ski area in the winter. I ate in the hotel, but I think the trattoria a few hundred yards down the road would have provided better food.Guest review byDeryk MayerItaly

Even though most houses in Assergi are empty, it is nice to walk through the tiny streets. The shared rooftop terrace of the building allows for beautiful views.
