Avola is lovely, not as touristy as other towns.
Avola is lovely, not as touristy as other towns. We stayed at a villa a few miles from the city center. If you do not have a car, be prepared to pay at least €20 each way to get to the bus or train station and back. It was worth it for us to avoid driving in the chaotic traffic. We've been to Avola multiple times in the last few years.
We've been to Avola multiple times in the last few years. It's a nice quaint town with friendly people and easy to reach beaches. Has a couple of squares with nice restaurants, beautiful old buildings and ice cream / pastry shops and lovely atmosphere (music, people dancing) in the evening. Unfortunately in the recent visits we found the town a bit ran down and except for the center and a few touristy spots a bit dirty (lots of trash on the street, from construction sites, food leftovers, ...). Cute city with availability of most important services, shops. Good start to make tours around Sicily. Trash is disturbing like in the whole island.
