We loved the location of Benevento and thoroughly enjoyed the city itself - the city center is very attractive. We spent 3 nights in Benevento in early October but we could have spent more. It's a perfect base for exploring surrounding areas like Naples and Campania in general. We enjoyed walking in the pedestrian friendly areas of the city center, especially in the evening, and we visited the Museum of Sannio and the adjacent Church of Santa Sophia, which was fantastic. There are additional museums there and we would have visited them if we had more time. The Janua Witch Museum looked especially interesting. The city is so clean; not too crowded with traffic; very walkable. Many historic sites and a lovely park with fountains in the historic district. Our favorite place for dinner was Roseto All'Arco, on Via Traiano. It opens at 8:00 p.m., but the food was so delicious! A few streets have been made into pedestrian areas, and the cafes along Corso Garibaldi had great lunches, sweets and gelato.Guest review byKathieUnited States - 10.0

Benevento is a beautiful town with lots of history. A refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of big cities. It's clean and the people are friendly. We loved our stay! The gelato is great. Lots of historical sites in Benevento, an often overlooked...
Lots of historical sites in Benevento, an often overlooked destination. The downtown center is very clean and seems brand new, due to the fact that it was heavily bombed during WWII and then rebuilt. There is an incredible Roman theater there along with a Lombard church from 700 BC, also the Arch of Trajan, one of the best preserved Roman structures in Italy. There's also a very interesting Samnite museum, Museo del Sannio. Lots to see. And good restaurants as well including Il Posto and Rosetta al Arco. Apart from the Teatro Romano there is an interesting old town which is easily walkable. It is also a ggod base for exploring the area of the historic sites to the North of Napoli, such as the amphitheatre at Caserta.
