Chieti is an ancient city going back 9000 years.
Chieti is an ancient city going back 9000 years. The Greeks and Roman developed the city calling it Teate. The center has the quaint narrow streets and old buildings which give the city its charm. Chieti is a small city where you can escape the massive hordes of tourists you find in Florence and Venice. However the city allows you to have a real Italian experience. Rome is only a two hour drive away. There is the natural aspect Chieti. The Gran Sasso are enormous mountains. There are forests and hiking trails. The Abbruzzese are some of the friendliest Italians in Italy. Fifteen minutes away is the Metropolitan city of Pescara and the Adriatic Sea. A nice town (speaking only of the historic center) with a few museums, ethnological sites, good food with extremely reasonable prices (compared to Rome). The people are nice, friendly, very limited tourists, asians to be seen. In the center, most restaurants offer meat/pasta...You'd have to go outside of the center to find well reviewed/rated fish restaurants and to get to Trabocco, it takes about an hour by car. I travelled alone and on foot so it wasn't easy to get to Trabocco nor did I want to pay for 1hr ride. There are many great restaurants in the center with great prices and offering huge servings (Casamoro - highly recommend). The town is easily accessible by train or bus from Rome. Due to the elevation, it may affect your skin. All in all, it's very peaceful, quiet, and great value for money.Guest review byMUnited Arab Emirates - 2.0

Chieti is split into 2 towns - the "bottom" town where the train comes in. There is nothing to see here other than a main, noisy street with take-away pizza restaurants - hardly anything was open and it felt like a ghost town. Then there is "Chieti Historic Centre" up a very steep hill about 4kms away (good luck with the bus timetable - a lottery!). Cute little place where all but one restaurant was closed and most of the shops were closed. Nice (small) church in a lovely square, which was deserted and only had one bar/cafe. Main street runs from one end to the other - deserted during the daytime and barely alive at night! We found a nice park with a lovely restaurant (which was closed on Mondays). Honestly - there is NOTHING to see or do in Chieti unless you want to sit in the same bar all day (only bars and cafes or DREADFUL pizzerias were open), eating ice cream or drinking coffee. Chieti is a lovely, peaceful town high above the valley. Perfect for a stopover for a couple of days. We discovered some excellent restaurants, serving both meat and pasta options. The town has a large park for walking and relaxing in and a museum.Guest review byMareaAustralia - 10.0

Chieti (and Abruzzo as a whole) feel like undiscovered gems in Italy. The old town is large and interesting, the main Piazza del Duomo is being worked on and will look amazing when done, the food is absolutely to die for and half the price relative to standard Northern Italian tourist areas. We were three adults — two stayed in the upstairs bedroom and one on the sofa bed downstairs. We visited Chieti for the Easter Procession, and the route passed right by the apartment, allowing us to simply step outside to watch. Although the apartment is located within the ZTL (limited traffic) zone, we found it very convenient to park our rental car at Piazza Ercole Rocchetti, just a short walk away.Guest review byMonicaDenmark

Very convenient for the station , which suited us as this was a stopover on our journey to Puglia. The space was perfectly thought out, so modern with many treats & lovely cake too. The old town of Chieti is a short bus ride (n° 1 from station ) There is also an outside terrace here at the unit to enjoy an evening drink or coffee in the morning. We booked taxi service through the hotel which was most welcome as the taxi driver greeted us at the airport and the hotel was convenient as not too far from the airport. The room had everything, clean and could not find any fault with it. The breakfast was outstanding and with a choice and selection that no matter what your food taste or allergen catered for you.
