Cortona is a great location for day tripping all that Tuscany( Montepulciano, Assisi, Arezzo, Pienza, Sienna) has to offer. Parking can be a challenge, but the town itself is delight with many terrific resturants(La Bucaccia & Antica Trattoria) that cater to vistors. Amazing medieval city with beautiful architecture and a great atmosphere. We were there on the main holiday weekend of the year and it was very crowded. There was a food festival in the park, a photographic exhibition in various sites around the city and a band playing in the Teatro Piazza in the evening. The many churches are beautiful and there are restaurants to suit everybody - from gourmet to burgers. Never a dull moment for two days. We have stayed in Cortona three times over the past few years. We love the fact that it's not too big It has a community feel. The restaurants are very good, and there are some lovely shops. Absolutely wonderful little Tuscan town located in a stunning landscape. Plenty of really good restaurants of all price ranges. Easy to happily lose yourself in the alleys and streets and to feel the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the community. Don't just stick to the core of the town, do explore the other parts, go up the hill to the fortress and have a drink/snack at their bar, and enjoy the uphill/downhill walk. And aimlessly walk around, not just inside the city and its surrounding wall, read about its history and stories, have an Italian drink somewhere with no allocated appointments afterwards and enjoy! Cortona is such an interesting place to visit.
Cortona is such an interesting place to visit. If you remember Francis Mayes, "Under the Tuscan Sun," this is the place she wrote about. It is so much more than that. It has some great dining and one of our favorite restaurants was Hostaria Pizzeria La Tufa. This is a great local restaurant and the food and wine were quite good. Our group ordered the Tagliere Di Cinghiale which was so yummy. Also the Grigliata Mista and the Sporta Serafino. All these dishes were delicious! Outside of Cortona, you can explore the CONVENT LE CELLE a place that St. Francis built. It is a sacred place and incredibly peaceful where monks who follow in his footsteps take an oath of silence. Nearby is Foiana della Chiana another beautiful hilltop town and then there is Lake Trasimeno and there is much to see here. All in all, Cortona and the surrounding area is steeped in history; a beautiful land and so much more to discover here!Guest review byVanaUnited States - 10

A beautiful and historical town. The views from the town are spectacular. So much to see. The people are very nice. There is a wide choice of restaurants. Good gelato on the Main Street. The house and the garden are exceptionally clean and well taken care of! The garden is much bigger than it is shown on the pictures and the whole property is fully fenced which is excellent if you are travelling with a dog. The staff is very firendly, kind and always smiling so the atmosphere is very nice! They were very helpful with my gluten free diet (I am coeliac) and they gave us a great recommendations for Cortona attractions 😀 The balcony with the pool is divine with a spectacular view of the village.
