This was our first stop after arriving from an overnight flight from Toronto. We stayed just one night before heading out on our travels along the coast of Calabria. Glad we got to experience the beauty of Pizzo, including a visit to Murat Castle and the fascinating ancient Church of Piedigrotta carved into the rocks and its stone statues. There is a nice beach in front of the church too where people were swimming and sun bathing. Parking is at the top for both at 5 euros for an hour or 10 for longer. Great apartment close to city Centre and beach. We only stayed one night as we were in transit to Sicily and wanted to stay and check out Pizzo. Accomodation was close to beach, cafes, restuarants and the central plaza of Pizzo. Pizzo is a quite but lively place without the crowds. Pizzo is locaton on a cliff so walking can be a problem for people with difficulties. Best gelato in Italy, great restuarants with seafood. We found everyone to be very helpful with informaiton. It is easy to walk around Pizzo except if you have difficutlies walking as the town is located on the side of a cliff and it is steep. Pizzo is a lovely authentic town, the beach area is lovely but note it’s very steep and if arriving from the train station get in a tuk tuk, the roads have no pavements and quite windy- to be expected from an authentic place but if we had known we would have got the tuk tuk. The host was lovely, and the house—recently renovated—had everything we needed, even toothbrushes and it was really clean. It's just a few minutes' walk to the central area, and the location is excellent. Pizzo itself is a charming city perched on a cliff.
