    Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.

    Hakodate is a beautiful scenic town surrounded by mountains. It's right on the port so lovely for a summers day. We enjoyed our 3 days here, going up Mt Hakodate and walking around the pretty streets. It would be a beautiful spot in Winter when there is snow.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly.

    The people in Hakodate are kind and friendly. There is much to see and do especially in the Spring season. Travelling around on the tram was very convenient. We really enjoyed Goryokaku Park, Mt Hakodate and Hakodate Park. Also enjoyed Morning Fish Market, Museum Ship Red brick Warehouese. Places of interest included Old Public Hall of Hakodate and Museum of Northern Peoples. The fish market in early morning and salt ramen very good.

    If you don't go further than the station/port area, it is a massive tourist trap that feels like it was tailor made for cruise ships. When a RC cruise was in, it was horrible. Even without cruise passengers swarming, it is already very touristy, but one can still find nice spots.

    Hakodate was definitely our favorite visited city on our 3-week trip to Japan. The crowds were non-existent and the city was easily walkable or easily navigated by streetcar and bus. We were here before the May Sakura bloom and would love to return at another time to experience this as well.

    We were only in Hakodate for one night, but we were able to explore the fish market and also to ride the Mt. Hakodate Ropeway for a spectacular view. We easily found a good restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

    We got big room with balcony and excellent view. Also in the room there were fridge, washing machine, kitchenette with tap and sink, lovely bathroom. Onsen at the hotel is perfect, breakfast rich and it includes a lot of Hokkaido produce. It is pnly 12 minutes walk from the station but 3 minutes from tram stop. Tram system is good in Hakodate. We would definitely come here again.

    The location is very good since Hakodate morning market is at its door-step. We parked at the hotel for free but we have to move our car by 12pm the next day when we checked out (check out at 10am). The bathroom is big for Japanese standard and has a large bath-tub. The apartment also has a balconly which is nice and a 7-11 store located very nearby.

    Great location which is just a corner away from the Hakodate station and Hakodate Morning market. Staff are friendly and sociable, while the room was clean and spacious. There are a public bath at 12th floor and guests can enjoy a nice view of the city. Definitely will stay at the hotel again if I visit Hakodate
