I came for the One Piece statues but I honestly loved the entire vibe of Kumamoto. The transit system was easier to navigate than I expected, and locals were very nice in offering to take pictures of us at the statues! I was also really impressed with the Kumamoto revival project details and how they specifically placed the crew members in places that needed aid but were relevant to the character. As we traveled to each statue, I was amazed at how gorgeous Kumamoto was, like a scene out of a Studio Ghibli movie. Kumamoto city - not much to see.

Other than the castle area, there isn't much to see in Kumamoto itself. But if you enjoy nature, the city is a pretty good jumping off point for visiting areas such as the Aso caldera and the Takachiho Gorge area.Guest review byTomJapan - 2.0
