100% best part of my stay was the view. very beautiful, even while relaxing in the onsen. room itself was comfortable and larger than expected. public hotel facilities were nice but limited (just the one top floor with a cafeteria/lounge and onsen). along with the public onsen there are four private onsen (no reservation required; you can just walk in and lock the door behind you). everything is clean and tidy. free food and snacks cycled in and out at the lounge. staff were very welcoming and accomodating. lovely food. i stayed two days in a row so was worried i might get the same menu, but the dinner menu was changed and i was provided an extra breakfast plate for my second breakfast to go with the standard buffet :) i read that it's not walkable, but the walk was rather nice, about ~8 minutes uphill walk from the bus terminal even with snow on the road. there is also a regular shuttle going both to the bus terminal and yubatake.

Extremely clean and comfortable, I had a room with private oven semi open to the outside, which was awesome. Very nice room well equipped. Staff members are nice, very professional and speak English, same for the owner. I highly recommend to have dinner there, it was delicious. Location is great, around 5 minutes from the main attractions of kusatsu. I would definitely stay there again.

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.

It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.

It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.

You can't miss the smell, but the view and the atmosphere are totally worth it!! Highly recommended to visit There are free footbaths around the town, just don't forget to bring your own towel. Plenty of places to stop for food, be it snacks or a meal.

Perfect one night excursion not too far from Tokyo.

Perfect one night excursion not too far from Tokyo. You should visit the cooling pools both for evening illumination and the next day to see them clearly. Don't miss the 15 min stroll to the Sainokawara outdoor bath. The park on the way is picturesque and being able to bathe in a hot spring river under the open sky was my favourite Onsen experience in all my years in Japan. Definitely one of the must do trips in Japan!

i think to stay 2-3 nights is perfect. i am more like a relax traveler, cant rushing to here and there. our first night is kinda wasted because we drove from NRT arrived at 930pm. otherwise, i would have time to visit Onsen Monkey, but it is good so i can leave it next time to visit with my kids :) but 2 nights will be ideal. also must do the massage there, you cannot believe, Tanaka san is GREAT, very professional, so we went there twice when we only stay 2 days. i dont have the exact address. but when you park your car or from train/bus station, his shop is located on the walk way down to the busy area. hope you all will find it. we are very lucky to find tanaka san.

Great family run establishment near Ootaki Onsen and Kusatsu Tropical Wonderland. It's about a 15 minute walk from Yubatake, but I preferred it since it's not as stinky. The private onsen was free and easy to use anytime. And the room was clean, comfy, and very pretty. I would recommend it for people who are driving (free parking), are bringing younger children, or just anyone who wants to stay a little farther from the crowds and smells near Yubatake. Would definitely stay again!

The location of this hotel was really great. It is near to the central of the onsen town but away from the noisy area. It was not too difficult to drive to and we managed to get a good parking space too. The staff service was really good, explanation was clear and they are also very polite. Dinner and breakfast was definitely the highlight of the trip. Looks good and taste good. Onsen was awesome also and all in all, we will want to come back again if we are in Kusatsu.

Authentic Japanese experience with sleeping on tatami mats. It was more comfortable than expected and the rooms were really big. The hotel has its own onsen with inside and outside baths. Personnel was very friendly and helpful. You leave your shoes at the entrance and the employees bring them back when you leave the building. The hotel also serves traditional breakfast.

The resort location is very close to the center area. Also the resort provided shuttle bus service to all the major sightseeing places. The resort has all other amenities very good Onsen; gaming area; restaurant. The best part is the Staff they are very helpful (even though in English) and also guided us with all of our queries.
