Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. It has many hidden gems in the form of cafes, traditional craft and cultural experiences and is a good jumping off point to see the rest of Ehime/Shikoku.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.

After Tokyo which is overrun with tourists Matsuyama has a far more traditional feeling. You can visit a variety of interesting sites in an unrushed and uncrowded manner. It is far more representative of Japan as it is lived in away from the crowds.

Matsuyama City is a captivating blend of tradition and modernity, making it a top-tier destination. Dominated by the iconic Matsuyama Castle and historic Dogo Onsen, the city seamlessly merges its rich past with contemporary vibrancy. Exploring Matsuyama's charming streets reveals bustling markets, unique shops, and delightful cafes in arcades like Okaido and Gintengai. The city's culinary scene is a treat, offering a diverse range of local flavors and gourmet experiences. Matsuyama's commitment to the arts is showcased in the Botchan Karakuri Clock, a whimsical mechanical masterpiece. The city's warm hospitality and cultural richness create an unforgettable experience for every traveler. In summary, Matsuyama is a compact gem that effortlessly balances tradition and modern allure, leaving a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to visit. Highly recommended for a memorable journey. ⛩️🍜🏰

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

The hotel is perfectly located at the Okaido arcade with a lot of Shops and Restaurants around. The tram station is very close to the hotel and you can easy reach the different places to visit. The Matsuyama castle can even be reached by a foot walk. At booking.com i only was able to Reserve a Smoking room, but thanks to the staff at the reception , i could change to a non-smoking room 😀.

The Hotel located at a very convenient place. You can easy to access to Matsuyama JR Station to go to the Airport, or take a taxi to the Airport, to walk go to the Mall shop, walk to the Matsuyama Castle, and the Hotel is right next to the night-bus stop. Also, you can see the ground -train which I think is the unique train in Japan just in front of the hotel.

The hotel is an excellent location, super close to the Matsuyama Station (about 15-16 min walk). The hotel staff were kind and helpful and the room was really spacious and comfortable. The pillows were super comfortable and the WiFi was quite fast as well.

Breakfast - not applicable as I did not have time to try it out due to my busy travel schedule. I liked how close and convenient the hotel was to the main railway station at Matsuyama
