I had an ocean-view room with a balcony overlooking the Miyajima Torii gate. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with two twin beds. The hotel also provided free breakfast and dinner, which was very convenient, as I didn't have to leave the hotel to find food. I also used the free bus that takes you to the station and back, it made my stay less stressful. The private onsen I reserved was very relaxing and clean. I loved the view of the ocean while I enjoyed the onsen.

Our room was incredible. It was one of our favorite rooms we stayed in during our two weeks travelling across Japan. It had so much character and beauty, from the tatami matt flooring, paper screen doors, beautiful wooden flooring in the bathroom, and bamboo weaving on the ceiling banisters. In our room, we had a fine view of the bustling streets of Miyajima. It was a great view for people watching as tourists and locals visited stores and restaurants. The dinner was great, made with fresh ingredients. It was no doubt one of the best dinners we had in Japan. It consisted of multiple courses, and you were able to choose preferences for each course. This was a nice surprise, as we had stayed in another ryokan in Hakone a few days prior that did not offer a selection for the courses. The sashimi was super fresh, and the pork tonkotsu was terrific.

It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come over by ferry for the day however we hired bikes and managed to stay clear of the crowds for the most part. The Island becomes very quite in the evening which is perfect, I would advise that you book a restaurant as lots of the island closes around 5-6pm so anything that is open later gets booked up. We were very lucky to just get the last free table on two occasions. Also the deer wandering around especially in the dusk and evening before al the ferries drop off are enchanting, however they are not like the deer in Nara park and there are lots of signs that remind people not to feed or bother the deer, not everyone follows these rules which is disappointing.

It was my second trip to Miyajima island.

It was my second trip to Miyajima island. The first time I only travelled their with my wife and we did not stay in any accommodation. I left back on the ferry same day feeling that I had to eventually return. I was able to do that and I loved every moment. It's an island I would consider going back too again and staying over again. The island offers so much. For those that want heritage and history, tick. For those that want a close encounter with a deers, tick. For those who love calm beaches or mountains, tick. For those that want experiences with friendly locals, tick. Those wanting to do shopping, especially souveniours, tick. For those who want physical activity, the walking trails up the mountain are a definite tick. I could go on, but, for so many reasons I love and would highly recommend travel to Miyajima.

    Miyajima is simply magical!

Miyajima is simply magical! From the moment you step off the ferry, you’re surrounded by stunning natural beauty, peaceful shrines, and the famous floating torii gate—it truly feels like stepping into a sacred, timeless world. One of the most enchanting parts of the island was wandering through the smaller shrines tucked into the forest, where rows of little Buddha statues wear hand-knitted red hats and bibs. There’s something incredibly touching and serene about them—like the whole island is wrapped in quiet reverence. Add in the friendly deer, delicious street food (don’t miss the grilled oysters and momiji manju!), and the breathtaking views from Mount Misen, and Miyajima easily became one of our favorite places in Japan. I didn’t want to leave!

A nice mix of traditional Japanese attractions and tourist facilities. Lots of deer roaming the streets and approaching tourists for food. The aquarium was interesting, but the fish exhibits seem very confined, particularly the seals and dolphins. Ferry service to and from the mainland is excellent, with services every 10 minutes.

We spent the night to improve our chances of seeing the Torii at high tide. It was a good decision as we loved the hotel. Coming with luggage was not a problem as the hotel sent a shuttle to the ferry to collect them, leaving us free to visit for the day. We loved the deer, we loved the shrine. We saw a procession of chanting monks. We did some shopping. We ate traditional meals at the hotel. This was a highlight of the trip.

Very nice guesthouse for a stay on Miyajima. The employees are very friendly will provide you with any information needed (e.g. restaurants that are still open after the day-tourists leave). Additionally, you can buy cup noodles/drinks for reasonable prices at the guesthouse. Great rooms with good view to the garden (and the village, depending on your exact location). As a plus, a random (tamed) deer might hang out in the garden. This is a perfect location for spending one (or more) nights on Miyajima. Would absolutely come again!

The hotel was expensive but offers a great experiment and the luxury to enjoy Miyajima on the evening, without the crow and enjoy the sunset and sunrise on the island. To room was huge and very clean, the bed very confortable. The hotel have a whole floor dedicated to well-being, with a salon, onsen, exterior pool, rock bath, karaoke room... That you can access anytime on the opening hour. They have also kimono at disposition at the entry, a little shop on the 1st floor.

This place was a perfect and an authentic stay in a ryokan. The hotel seemed to be freshly renovated. The appliances were of the highest quality and every detail was very well thought through. The interior of the room and the hotel dinning room with the little garden was exquisite. Although quite expensive at the time of booking it was well worth it. The location was also great, 4 minites away from the fast ferry stop (Hiroshima war memorial- Miyajima).

The hotel is wonderfully located right next to the ferry terminal. The staff were lovely and upon check in the gentleman at reception upgraded our room size free of charge without even being asked. The rooms are quite small but you get used to that in Japan. We had an amazing view of the harbour and Miyajima. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was a tasty selection of sashimi, soup, rice and fish.

Good reasons to stay in Sakuraya: - Location (on the island Miyajima!). - Kindness of the staff. - Japanese style rooms (warning! Sleeping on a Japanese futon might be uncomfortable if you are picky with mattresses). - Onsen in the basement to get a relaxing bath at the end of the day. - Breakfast for 500 yens. The breakfast is not very generous, but it is a good deal for that price.
