This unique ryokan is perfectly situated to explore the Iya Valley from. Whether you're on foot or have a car. I travelled on foot, walking to the vine bridge which is only 4 minutes away. The bus stop it literally across the road from the entrance. Family run and very well managed. There are a few breathtakingly stunning onsens you can visit as a day visitor in the valley.

Love everything at the guesthouse. The host is super nice ! They have everything in the kitchen. We were able to buy meat at a small local supermarket( open till 7 pm) and do yakiniku at the guest house! The host even went above and beyond to provide us the yakiniku sauce!! The room is huge and clean. Toilet and bathroom are shared but very clean and easy to use. The vine bridge and waterfall are 5 mins walk and we were able to go at night for different view ! There’s a free parking area for the guests staying! Would love to stay again if I come back in the future. Plus there are console games and comic books, great for family or friends trips. The host make sure we were comfortable staying at their guesthouse! Highly recommended to anyone if planning to stay around the area

The location along the river, along the bus route to the gorges that we wanted to see, and proximity to a reasonable restaurant and food store were all positives

When we arrived, the hotel staff immediately carried our luggage to the room. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. That evening, it happened to snow heavily, and we went to the outdoor hot spring pool while enjoying the snowfall. Both breakfast and dinner were wonderful, with the waitress explaining the ingredients used in each dish. The famous Iya Kazura Bridge and Biwa Waterfall is just walking distance. It’s a hotel with great value for money, and our whole family loved it!

The hosts were very attentive, very kind, easy to communicate with. The home was a wonderful, historic, traditional 110 year old Japanese home. The location and atmosphere were perfect and great value!

The place was surprisingly new even though they have traditional Japanese rooms with tatami. Shared toilets and showers were also new and clean. Restaurant in the first floor (run by the same people as the hostel) had an amazing, relaxing vibe and tasty food (there were a lot of options with deer meat and Asian-fusion cuisine).

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.

Great area and plenty to see, a car is a must to get around so you can get to all the places out of the way. It was winter so we were restricted on walks and things to visit. Love to go back in the Spring or the Fall to experience a whole new world

To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an understatement. The vine bridges, the scarecrow village and gorges are pretty much all you'll hear about and for good reason. They're the main attraction and the reason people go. It's all about the nature and a handful of curiosities like the Yokai museum. While not the tourist powerhouse of big cities like Kyoto, it does kind of live off of its "in the know" tourists. A new generation of younger entrepreneurs are trying to revitalize the area and transform it into something more in line with their modern sensibilities. Travel is not easy and requires a lot of planning and preparation. Buses are extremely rare and trains as well. Bad weather can throw a wrench into your plans and mess up everything. Renting a car almost a must in order to visit the more far away spots, but a strong and experienced cyclists could probably do it - maybe. Those hills and mountains aren't always easy! And those trucks get a bit scary. I stayed in Ikeda-cho, one of the bigger areas of Miyoshi city but still a bit of a one horse town. But one thing is has going for it is that you can follow the Yoshino river for an 80km ride into Tokushima city. On a nice day, it's one of the best bike rides you could do.

We had a great stay in this small ryokan. The staff is very welcoming. We were offered to have dinner at the ryokan, which we luckily accepted also because there were not many dinner options nearby. The dinner was a complete Japanese dining experience, of ocurse with sweet water fish from the nearby river. The room was fine.

More secluded ryokan. Comfortable 10 tatami room with toilet. Multi course dinner and breakfast included in plan. I think the Japanese breakfast is better value. Outdoor bath down the hill via the cable car was interesting to visit, with views to the river.

Traditional Japanese room with futon & then single bed. We met some other guests to chat to. There is a washing machine which is useful. Seperate toilet for women is nice. Good cooking facilities, although we didn’t use.
