The decor has been very tastefully done. The breakfast was average, but the coffee was good. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The library overlooking Mt Myoko was a great place to meet up with friends for a drink.

Sekiyama Onsen is a hot spring with a long history, and Yoshinoya Onsen Ryokan has been in operation for over 100 years. It embodies a truly traditional Japanese style—absolutely amazing! The onsen itself is fantastic. Moreover, the open-air onsens, Kawara no Yu and Koganeyu, located 2-3 kilometers from Yoshinoya Onsen Ryokan, were amazing hidden gems. They offered a fantastic experience and created wonderful memories for our family. The next-generation owner was incredibly kind. Thanks for guiding us to these amazing places—this wonderful memory will remain forever in our family’s hearts. Sekiyama Onsen Ski Resort is famous for its powder snow, and I look forward to skiing there again in January.

Myoko is an incredible region of fun, the mountains offer heaps of ski resorts with fantastic runs, lessons, places to dine and sit with a hot beverage or refreshen beer or sake. Its wonderful for both families and those who are daring to hit the slopes for thrills. The hotel shuttles, local buses and taxis make travel from resort to various slopes, very easy. The locals are exceptionally helpful and friendly.

The snow in Myoko is otherworldly.

The snow in Myoko is otherworldly. The powder is unimaginably great and really loved visiting Seki Onsen Ski Area. It's a small, family-owned ski area run by the Inoue Family who are the kindest and most hospitable people you'll find anywhere in Japan. Family-owned and run ski areas are in decline with large corporations buying up ski areas across Japan, so it was a real treat to ski at an area where the snow was perfect and you're supporting a local business. 10 our 10 for Seki Onsen Ski Area!

Ski areas vary considerably in the area.

Ski areas vary considerably in the area. Akakura Onsen has absolutely the worst lifts i have experienced in Japan. When they weren't broken down they were extremely slow. On the other hand Suginohara has a new gondola and modern 'high' speed lifts. This was the pick of the mountains to ski for me.

Myokokogen is a great spot for skiing and snowboarding.

Myokokogen is a great spot for skiing and snowboarding. Most hotels come with their own onsens. As for ski resorts, Suginohara has more advanced terrain, followed by Akakura Kanko (top part), Ikenotaira Alpen Blick and finally Akakura Onsen. Seki onsen is a small but great option on deep powder days. Lotte Arai (advanced terrain) is a 30-min drive from Akakura onsen. As for apres ski, Akakura Onsen is the only option. Lots of restaurants and bars on the main street. Sekigawa (Ikenotaira area) and Suginosawa (Suginohara area) are quite sleepy, and deserted at times.

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow!

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow! Loved the long ski runs at Suginohara and skiied there 3 days. Also skied one day each at Ikenotaura Onsen and Seki Onsen. Low visibility killed us! Be prepared to ski in low cloud and less groomed tracks. Lime Resort Onsen was fantastic. Local restaurants (Chinese, Japanese and Greek) were great food and value for money.

The host, Ai Chan is amazing! She went out of her way to make our stay special. The rooms are huge, the beds are super comfortable and the breakfasts were outstanding. The hotel has two private onsens which are great to use before and after a day on the mountain. The location is in the middle of Akakura Onsen. It's a 300m walk to Akakura Onsen lifts or the Myoko Kogen shuttle service that takes you to all of the resorts around Myoko Kogen. There are a heap of restaurants and bars next to the hotel.

The staff were fantastic! This rustic hotel is as you would expect and as many hotels across Japan, however it met our expectations and value for money. Whilst we didn't have dinner here, the breakfast was fantastic, and they were really accommodating to my dietaries requirement. The onsite onsen was lovely, and there are a handful of lovely restaurants closeby. Whilst they offer shuttle rides to the mountain, we found having a car gave us much more flexibility and options.

Nice hotel in the mountains with very hot onsen. The owner is very kind and supportive. He picked us at the station because we didn’t have a car. This is a remote location so coming with a car sure is easier. Dinner was excellent and a lot to eat. Room was Japanese style, it was big, with large windows to see the trees in the forest. Very cozy living area with a lot of books and other things to see.

Close and easy access to Seki Onsen skifield, access via the flat learners slope out the back of hotel, then a 5min walk to the Seki for deep pow skiing. Gourmet Japanese dinners which was perfect for my wife and myself but our Kids couldn't eat it due to their Western taste. Really nice facilities and onsen with Sauna.

Central location close to Akakura Onsen ticket office and lift, and restaurants (including those attached to hotel). Run by a lovely Japanese family who were the perfect hosts and made us feel so welcome and looked after. Onsen was excellent after a day on the slopes.
