Beautiful, spacious and well equipped ryokan all to ourselves. Takashi-San, our gracious host, also owns the Cafe next door and an amazing collection of records. We had dinner there and the curry and carbonara he prepared were delicious. Plus he played some beautiful music from the 70’s. The ryokan is fully equipped , well heated and the futon beds were extremely comfortable. Takashi san even gave us water bottles to warm the beds at night. We slept so well. We were only two and could not believe we had this huge beautiful house to ourselves. Takashi-san is an attentive host : he provided juice, snacks , water , coffee , tea etc all free. It is such a quiet and relaxing place off the beaten tracks.

Our group of six were awed by the fact that the three houses we stayed in were about 100 to 400 years old! Our houses had beautiful garden views which we could soak in from our patios. Dinner and breakfast were superb, with subtle flavors and fine details. The meals were a riot of colour and a feast for the eyes as well. From the time we were picked up from Nakatsugawa station till the next morning when we were dropped off at Magome-juku, we received nothing but warm and hospital service from this small family-run property.
