What Guests Said About Nara:

    Nara is beautiful.

Nara is beautiful. There are two UNESCO world heritage sites and lots of deer. If you are afraid of animals, I don't recommend it. The deer will follow you if you have food and they may try to take it from you if you hesitate or don't gently push them away. They are not, as a general rule, aggressive. A lot of tourists freak out and just throw their crackers. Don't do that. Stay calm. The deer don't want to hurt you, they just want a snack. They don't care for being pet either. Just snap your crackers (200 yen sold at different stands) into 3-4 pieces, hold out your hand flat and let them take it from you. Be aware of how many are around you. They will surround and nibble your clothing. I found this hilarious. I grew up with cows and they will pretty much do the same thing. Use your voice and be gentle. The one day bus pass is really useful. I wish I had more time in Nara.

Nara Koen (park) is a beautiful place.

Nara Koen (park) is a beautiful place. Todaiji and Kasuga Kaisha is located nearby. The Sarusawa Ike (pond) behind the Nara Park leads to shopping place. One can spend whole day around Nara. - Beware of the deer, they might get a bit aggressive when offering food. - It gets crowded during on-season.

I love the deer and the ambiance of Nara.

I love the deer and the ambiance of Nara. Arrive early and expect crowds. As with anything else, the further you walk from the main area, you can stumble across more peaceful and secluded places. I would avoid Nara on the weekend, if possible. Deer can be friendly (and bow politely to ask for a treat) or aggressive (grabbing items out of your bag, biting your clothing, or being over-zealous). Keep your crackers high or out of sight and feel free to walk away from deer that are not vibing.

This is a beautiful, small city with wonderful restaurants,...

This is a beautiful, small city with wonderful restaurants, beautiful parks (filled with Nara's famous deer), a fascinating history and many sites of historical, architectural and religious significance - our only regret was the length of our stay, as two or three more nights would have been better as there is so much to see!

Nara was a great place for me since it has marvel buildings...

Nara was a great place for me since it has marvel buildings preserved from Tang dynasty of China, it has a such warm and relaxed environment. We stayed for 3 nights but I was hoping we stayed longer to see more of this endearing and oldest capital of Japan. We visited Isui-en Garden which was tranquil, peaceful and memorable. I was welcomed by a volunteer who showed me the water garden, tea house and told me the history of the garden, through her enthusiasm I learned that in Japan's feudal system, samurai was the highest class followed by peasants, artisans and merchants. The person who created Isui-en Garden was a merchant who created the customs for Samurai, he made a lot of money and was able to create this garden. She made sure I remember the name of the garden in Chinese and Japanese, it means a "garden along the water"; a very appropriate name. Then at the end of the tour, she surprised me with colorful deers she made in her spare time in origami as gifts from Nara to me. I was so happy to cross the path with Isui-en Garden. We really enjoyed Japanese Tapas in Yamato Cafe in the town center which only uses Nara vegetables. It was recommended by the local visitor center, we went there for lunch with cheapest package, then we were treated with first course of 5 or 6 small colorful and tasteful dishes, then we got multiple courses of main dishes with miso soup, and finally we got a wonderful dessert. I wish we could stay longer to try out more local restaurants. We also enjoyed the local museums and temples. Thank you Nara for your hospitality and friendliness. I left part of my heart in Nara.

    An ideal tourist destination.

An ideal tourist destination. The deer park is worth the trip alone, but the historic temples and nice views complete the picture. Lots of eateries for tourists. I've been visiting for more than 20 years, and this year the crush of the tourist boom was evident along the main routes, but it was still easy to wander through quieter sections. And thanks to the express trains, it can be a base for visiting Kyoto and Osaka as well.

We had a wonderful stay! The room layout was perfect for a family and quite spacious compared to many other hotels in Japan. Everything was super clean and very quiet, which made for a relaxing stay. We especially loved the outdoor table where we could sit, unwind, and watch the deer — it was so peaceful. The location was excellent, just a few minutes’ walk from Nara’s main street and Nara machi with plenty of restaurants nearby. There was even an amazing udon shop just seconds away!

Nice location only few minutes away from Nara train station and walkable distance to many restaurants and the deer park. Very beautifully decorated interiors and clean rooms. The room itself was also quite big, especially in comparison to other Japanese cheap hotels. The bed was extremely soft (which can be both negative and positive depending on your preference). The blanket was super fluffy and comfortable, I really enjoyed sleeping. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place!!!

The check-in and checkout process is fun. The breakfast was very simple but good - it would probably get repetitive after a few days, but we didn't mind as we were there only for two nights. We also used the luggage storage option on our checkout day so that we could leave the city later. The best part about the hotel is its location - it's a few minutes' walk from Nara park, a street market, many restaurants, and a train station.

This was a proper hotel with good breakfast, onsite onsen and good supermarket nearby. The location was great with 2 mins walk to the nara station and has a store offering direct farm food directly opposite (very cheap price). Good eateries around. The onsite onsen is a must try, offering their own hot spring and was especially useful after a tiring day.
