The place is located at about 20 minutes on foot from the entrance of the traditional village. It is a quiet residential area, with a couple of restaurants and a convenient store at about 5 minutes walk. Bear in mind though that every shop closes at about 18:00-19:00, so you have to manage your supplies before that! The room was equipped with everything, the design was modern and minimalistic, superbly ergonomic and giving out a traditional vibe as well! One small detail we were extremely happy about, is that the room lacks a TV! Which we found brilliant, as it helped us, chill out nicely and get a good feeling of the surrounding beautiful nature! Also kudos to Kenji for the scheduled "rooms to bus stop ride" in the morning! It was much appreciated!

The owner was super nice - he drove me to the bus station and lent me money for the taxi when I didn't have enough cash on me to pay the difference.

Hello The hotel has impeccable service. The rooms were clean, the food was spectacular. The location is the best, very close to the trains. The hosts were very kind and respectful. I did not speak Japanese or English, but communication with the translators was sufficient. They helped us a lot at the reception. Without a doubt, when I return, I will stay at that hotel. Sincerely: Luz Marina Saenz, 62 years old. Colombian.

AMAZING!!! at the time of our booking, this super special ryokan was rated an unbelievable 10.0, so we arrived with VERY high expectations ... which were, in fact, surpassed. the setting is very rural & beautiful -- certainly best to arrive by car -- & the antique house is authentic, aesthetic, well preserved & truly something to admire. best of all, the family is VERY warm & hospitable ... making u feel right at home & a part of their everyday lives -- creating a truly unique & memorable encounter. eating around the hearth was delicious & enchanting ... & its central position w/in the house adds a mild smoky scent to the place, which i found pleasantly enjoyable. certainly not inexpensive, but highly recommended ... as that once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience not to be missed! ps-> u're apt to taste a dairy delight or 2 from their goats ... try to go -- by car -- to the nearby place where they milk them

Good quality with a spacious common area and a well equipped kitchen. The host was friendly, welcoming, and clearly cared about his guesthouse to a high standard. We felt right at home and he cleared the snow from our car windows too which was very thoughtful.

    1 day experience is perfect.

1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.

It has beautiful views of the snow, river, mountains and of course the thatched roof houses. The air is fresh but it is difficult to find a restaurant because they close early. It is boring at night. It would be better if visitors just go to Shirakawa for a day trip and stay at Takayama.

Shirakawa-go is a beautifully preserved hidden gem, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Walking through the village feels like stepping back in time, with its iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses and serene atmosphere. No matter the season, the scenery is breathtaking—whether dusted in snow, surrounded by cherry blossoms, lush with greenery, or glowing with autumn colours. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in traditional Japan.

Beautiful landscape with gassho buildings that are UNESCO heritage. There are quite a few museums open for tourists to get a deeper understanding of inhabitants who lived in these buildings many years ago. Many Souvenir shops and eateries... But most close by 5pm or 6pm. Limited dinner choices at night.

Shirakawa is a really gorgeous, serene village that we absolutely loved visiting. It almost felt unreal. Even though most of the restaurants and cafes were closed when we went (due to the season), it was lovely to just walk around and enjoy the sights.

Was a very nice locations to visit. The feeling you have from just walking around is lovely. A short trip is more than enough to get enough enjoyment out of it. Two or three days is sublime if you get up early to beat the rush.
