I felt I was very lucky to be able to book a room here for the illumination event on Jan. 19, 2025. The room is modern and well-equipped, it meets all our needs as city dwellers who explore this village for the first time. This hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the Shirakawago Bus Terminal, but we didn't feel it's a long walk given all the beautiful snow and village scenes alongside the paths. The staff were nice and friendly, and they did help us a lot on our specific needs: we arrived in the morning of the illumination day, and we were allowed to hand our big suit cases to a member of staff. When we were back in the hotel for the tickets of the illumination event, our suit cases were already in our room. This saved us quite some efforts to store our suit cases at the Shirakawago Bus Terminal. After the event was over, I asked the member of staff who would drive us back to the hotel about a restaurant nearby for our dinner. He told us that restaurant opened until 9 PM that day and drove us directly there, which saved us efforts and left us more time to enjoy the wonderful Hida Beef. I appreciate all the kindly help from everyone in this hotel, and I will stay here again when I visit Shirakawago next time.

I can’t speak for fancy travelers but for the people who love comfort and coziness, this is probably the best place to be. The owner is so kind, I only speak a little Japanese but I felt so welcomed and well attended. I will definitely stay here again I would be back at Shirakawa-go!

We were very surprised at the place, it's spacious, the room has a view of nature. The common areas are welcoming, calm and fully equipped. We really appreciated all the hand written books about shirakawago and takayama. Definitely a place you should stay !

I loved it Cozy rooms and bed Feels private and quiet The hosts were so nice! They let me leave my baggage before check in and after check out! And even one of them gave me a ride to my next hotel in the village! The restaurant is so good and I’ve eaten there twice! I highly recommend staying here :)

Japanese style breakfast and dinner are perfect. Onsen is big and the facilities provided are good. The bed room is quite big enough for our family of five. Overall experience at this place is very satisfied.

Our stay was PERFECT in every way. The house is so thoughtfully designed and with such good taste. Everything is super clean and tidy yet very cozy and it feels like home. The shower rooms are wonderful, the rooms are spacious, the kitchen has absolutely everything and all such good quality. We stayed two nights and visited the world heritage sites nearby. You can get to Ainokura walking 30/40 minutes. The others are reached by bus and the bus stop is right in front of the house. You have a supermarket 2 blocks away, two bakeries from Which I totally recommend the bread / doughnut with red bean paste and the cakes. We also had a wonderful dinner in one of the restaurants. The host was so kind and attentive to every detail. I totally fully recommend staying here. Wonderful experience!

    1 day experience is perfect.

1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.

It has beautiful views of the snow, river, mountains and of course the thatched roof houses. The air is fresh but it is difficult to find a restaurant because they close early. It is boring at night. It would be better if visitors just go to Shirakawa for a day trip and stay at Takayama.

Shirakawa-go is a beautifully preserved hidden gem, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Walking through the village feels like stepping back in time, with its iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses and serene atmosphere. No matter the season, the scenery is breathtaking—whether dusted in snow, surrounded by cherry blossoms, lush with greenery, or glowing with autumn colours. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in traditional Japan.

Beautiful landscape with gassho buildings that are UNESCO heritage. There are quite a few museums open for tourists to get a deeper understanding of inhabitants who lived in these buildings many years ago. Many Souvenir shops and eateries... But most close by 5pm or 6pm. Limited dinner choices at night.

Shirakawa is a really gorgeous, serene village that we absolutely loved visiting. It almost felt unreal. Even though most of the restaurants and cafes were closed when we went (due to the season), it was lovely to just walk around and enjoy the sights.

Was a very nice locations to visit. The feeling you have from just walking around is lovely. A short trip is more than enough to get enough enjoyment out of it. Two or three days is sublime if you get up early to beat the rush.
