We came here for kiteboarding and it turned out to be a good decision (August). One of the family members is a keen kiteboarder and was able to organise a boat to take us out to the island at the river mouth. It is a nice laid back place with easy access to the city by tuk-tuk or in our case a hired motorbike. The staff also assisted with reasonably priced transport to/from Phnom Penh and were flexible with our needs to change the booking at short notice. Kampt is a nice little town to visit to get away from the madness in Phnom Penh. It has a very laid back vibe and feels safe. Quite a few good options for dining and a wide variety of accommodations. Enjoyed three days just outside of town. We used it as a hub to visit Bokor National park, La Fontaine pepper farm and the salt flats via a scooter. It was hard to see so many alcoholic older expat men living there. I did go into one of the girly bars with a friend one night and they let you drink your beer without to much bother. if you showed and interest in them of course then they would start the hustle on ya but otherwise they let you be. Very relaxed city. All types of food, bars, hotels etc. People are very warm and friendly. Beautiful river setting. I loved the trip to Bokor Mt. It's beautiful temples and history .Totally loved seeing those healthy happy Silver gibbons in their natural habitat. I was getting addicted to Tuk Tuk rides ,they were so much fun and very cheap. But it was good to be able to give the very skilled drivers a tip. They were so helpful and courteous.The river cruise was beautiful and although it was the wrong season to be spotting fireflys ,it was very serene and lovely to see other resorts and quaint little buildings from the boat. Not much Birdlife though.I thought would be cormorants and ducks.And I'm kind of glad that roasted Rat wasn't on my agenda😮Guest review byWhelan

When our boat trip to Kep was cancelled at the last minute the manager immediately organised a Tuk Tuk tour to Le Plantation and Kep (to eat at the crab market). It was brilliant. Location is a bit outside the city and not near any noisy roads so it is perfectly calm, but you can still reach the city within 5 minutes by TukTuk, car oder scooter (they rent scooters at the hotel).
