Very helpful people all over Shymkent. Everyone was helpful from people on the sidewalks to staff in the shops to bus drivers. It was such a welcome feeling I don't have words to express my experiences. I saw Kazakh people as a proud and honourable nation with love and respect for guests from other countries. Despite the language barrier Everyone went all the way to help and guide me wherever I went. There isn't a great deal to do here.
There isn't a great deal to do here. The city has parks and the city centre is neat and tidy, so you can relax. Also November probably isn't a good month, so in the summer the parks will be in bloom. Almost nobody seems to speak English which can be frustrating when you want information about travel, for example. The Visit Shymkent offices are invariably closed (either near Shymkent Plaza or in the Grand Hotel) though if you catch one open, someone will try to help. Lovely city with friendly people.
Lovely city with friendly people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream vendors. It is very hot in summer, but the city is fool of parks and boulevards with trees. It is a great place to explore the south of Kazakhstan, Turkestan is 3 hours away in train.Guest review byEdgar

As we already know Shymkent, the location was fine - good for those who want to get a taxi to Tashkent. There is a children's play area opposite the hotel, and the hotel provided my son with a bowl of porridge for breakfast.
