We spent two nights here. The room was huge and the bed was super comfortable. The food was also very tasty. We had dinner both nights and it didn't disappoint. Staff were super friendly and attentive. This was one of our best accommodations in Sri Lanka. It was a little far from the sights, but everything was a short tug tug ride away. We would highly recommend this place.

This hotel is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. Interior design is very stylish and has several personal touches which the lovely owners will walk you through. Everything was very clean and functioning. Food is cooked to your liking and served on time. Throughout the stay the staff is attentive and service is excellent. We like to chitchat a bit, and the staff has perfect English skills. Few rooms available, so it feels like renting an entire luxurious villa for yourself. Even if not planning to go to Anuradhapura, I would go simply to enjoy this hotel. (If you can even call it a hotel. Feels like being invited into a celebrity’s private mansion!).

Quiet residential street, big room, comfortable beds, very clean, screens on the windows, nice hot shower with great pressure. No breakfast or restaurant onsite. We were very happy with the supper and breakfast at Seedevi Family Restaurant, located just around the corner on the main road.

Great value for money. Rooms were clean and comfortable beds. The family running the hostel were lovely and very helpful. Greeted us with a welcome cup of tea on arrival and organised a tuk tuk tour to see the ancient city. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Absolutely liked everything about the Residence by Amaya. Relaxed ambience, convenient location closer to Anuradhapura town and other main attractions of the city. The view from the room is super beautiful, the vocation is a little bit outside of the city Center what makes it really calm and natural. When I sat on the terrace I saw monkeys and palm trees. The best part of this place is the host family who treated me super kindly and made me part of the family for the time I stayed at their place. The owner of the property took me to a lot of hidden places and when I got hungry he dropped me at a really nice restaurant. I am really grateful I got to know them!

Great location behind the main street but quiet (except when a occasional train goes by). Looks nicely renovated and the staff were really lovely and helpful. Room was simple but clean, stairs into the bathroom are a bit steep. Aircon worked well.

During my stay, the property owner made several inappropriate and judgmental comments about my affordability and my decision to share meals with my mother, who is disabled. His behaviour was rude and discriminatory. After I posted my review describing my disappointment, the owner contacted me directly on my personal mobile number using very abusive and offensive language. This message was completely unacceptable and made me feel unsafe.

We loved our Homestay chez Olivia . Lovely couple very hospitable and helpful. Hired bikes which was wonderful to go see all the Stupa sites etc. beautiful area & lovely garden. Birdlife was fabulous. Highly recommend

Anuradhapura is an amazing and spiritual place.

Anuradhapura is an amazing and spiritual place. It's different from the other sites in Sri Lanka because it still attracts so many pilgrims to its religious sites. It's a good idea to dedicate one day to visiting the active pilgrimage sites and the next to the historical sites, for which you need a ticket. Remember to cover up with long trousers and sleeves and don't forget your socks, because the ground is really hot and you have to take off your shoes everywhere. If you have an extra day, you can also return to the sites at night, which is when pilgrims light candles. Make sure you've got the Pick Me app installed and look out for a tuk tuk driver called Nisha. He's absolutely amazing: great driver, kind and attentive and with good English. For dinner, the atmospheric Hotel Shalini is a good bet. The Seedevi family restaurant is another good place. If you want to have a beer, they can put you in a separate 'family' room, or you can go to the tiny 'pub' next door.

It is one of the best locations, slightly hot and humid, but if you love history and sightseeing, you cannot miss this location, further you can travel to multiple historic locations from here, we travelled to Mihinthale Temple and Mahiyangana, the drive was scenic, but Mihinthale will take your breath.

Anuradhapura, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, is a treasure trove of ancient history that stretches back to the 4th century BCE. Established by King Pandukabhaya, it served as the majestic capital of Sri Lanka for over a millennium, playing a pivotal role in the island's Buddhist heritage and cultural evolution. The arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, introduced by Mahinda Thera in the 3rd century BCE, marked a transformative era for Anuradhapura. This led to the creation of awe-inspiring stupas, monastic complexes, and elaborate water reservoirs that showcase the ingenuity of the time. Central to this transformation is the revered Sri Maha Bodhi tree, a sapling believed to have been taken from the very tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, which continues to be a powerful pilgrimage site. Anuradhapura flourished as a vibrant hub of trade, culture, and religion. Its stunning architecture, exemplified by monumental structures like the Ruwanwelisaya and the Jetavanaramaya, reflects the extraordinary vision and craftsmanship of its builders—each stone telling a story of devotion, power, and artistry. Nice, modern style hotel 10 minute tuk tuk from the ancient city. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable, with beautiful views over rice paddy fields. Great size pool which has sun all day - perfect for relaxing after visiting the temples. Restaurant served nice sri lankan breakfast and reasonable dinner menu. Staff were laid back and willing to help. There is a small convenience shop next door and is ten mins walk down a main road from a couple of local restaurants.

The hotel was small and in a garden and close to a lake with a long distance view of the pagodas. It was a bit difficult to access which kept it quite private. It was a lovely walk along the lake to some of the ancient sites.. the staff was friendly and helpful.
