Hikkaduwa has fabulous beaches but when we stayed in March...
Hikkaduwa has fabulous beaches but when we stayed in March the flags were up for no swimming as the waves were so big. This was not a problem for us as we did not want to swim particularly but people that want to snorkeor have young children that want to swim may be disappointed. Great to be close to Galle but be in a quieter location. Aboit 20 mins by car. Lots of little bars and places to eat along the beach. Beaches are quiet and less full of tourist than Galle. There are quite a few stray dogs (everywhere in Sri Lanka) which don't bother you but do be mindful that they may go to the toilet on the beach so watch where you tread!!!Guest review byLucindaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I was away for 44 nights in the sun. Swimming reading away from a cold winter. What else can you ask for. Got good food good people. Beautiful beaches, so many beautiful things to see. Hikkaduwa is one of the best places to stay few days at the southeast coast of Sri Lanka. Very nice,clean beach with fine golden sand,many guest houses and hotels,restaurants. Easy to reach nearby historic Galle town by bus or train-ca 1/2hour, Bamian Buddha Statue/Tsunami museum in Peraliya or Seenigama Buddish/HinduTemple few hundred meters away.Guest review bySzymanski

The hotel is located about 1 km from the city center what makes your stay even better. The rooms are with sea view. The staff very friendly. We were unexpectedly few hours before our scheduled check in and could still promptly get the room. Also because our flight back was late we could use the garden the whole day after check out and get the shower before leaving Hikkaduwa. Supermarket right in front in the main road. Loads of great restaurants on the Beach. The in house chef is a very good chef and super friendly and a very nice guy who helped us a lot with transport and tours. The swimming pool was amazing. We also enjoyed the satellite tv as we could watch cricket live.
