Kalkudah is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka!
Kalkudah is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka! The water here has an amazing emerald colour and it is very clean, transparent. It is a very long and beautiful sandy beach with a free natural spirit, with hardly anyone around. We enjoyed swimming almost all the day! No tourist attractions but some restaurants like Laya Waves are and Swiss Cafe on the shore are the options. Kalkudah works fine for yoga, meditation, walking along, etc. There are some cows and their manure in some spots, but it is better than plastic garbage. Some days the waves were bigger than Passikuda, but no corals on Kalkudah. Comparing to Passikuda we liked Kalkudah much better. Passikuda is over crowded with a long chain of luxury hotels and is not as beautiful. Anyway if anyone is coming with children Passikuda has shallow waters, as well as some tourists attractions. In any case, on Kalkudah one can dig a hole in the sand for children, where the ocean water will come, while making the natural baths that way.Guest review byPolinaSri Lanka

There are a couple of restaurants and one supermarket in the area. This is an area where many tourists stay in resorts, so it's a bit quiet in general. Location is calm and close to Kalkudah beach and Passikudah. The staff were so lovely and even though they didn't speak great English they went above and beyond to make sure we were well.
