Matara, was a good place for me.I stayed at La Polena,for 12 nights.The breakfast was excellent and the lady that made it changed the sheets and cleaned my room twice.I do think that they could give visitors a bottle of water daily.Also a jug to make a cup of tea in each room.Very little money is spend on maintaining the place.Also a sign with numbers for hiring Tuk-Tuk drivers would help.The manager is nice ,but a little slow in offering advice. Island rsetuarant past the Doctors had teh best food.I also needed more veg.So bought carrots,tomatoes and cucumber for myself.Also egg,roll in town. Matara is a beautiful coastal town in southern Sri Lanka, full of charm and local culture. The beaches are clean and peaceful—perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing. I enjoyed exploring the historic Matara Fort and visiting nearby places like Polhena Beach and Parey Dewa Temple. The local food is delicious, and the people are warm and welcoming. Polhena If you are looking for a tourist only beach, this isn't it. Mostly locals and that's why it was so lovely. Very small beach with no waves. A dead reef but some fish and turtles. Local people there were really kind. Which is what made this place special. Matare is part of a chain of cities along the southernmost coast of Sri Lanka. It has beaches for expert surfers as well as beginners and those who just want to be by the beach. The beaches along the coast are all sparkling translucent and enticing. Nice place, but you have to make an effort to explore, which is nice. Not the commercial fully packaged commercial tourist deal. Good quirky options. Has quite a lot of Sri Lanka's history, forts, but courts, and old paved streets, as I said, a great if you make a little effort to explore.
