We recently stayed at The Elephant Park Hotel as a family — my wife, our 1.5-year-old son, and I — and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome to the thoughtful service, everything was top-notch. Ravindu, the manager, was incredibly kind and ensured every part of our stay was comfortable, especially with our toddler. Andrew, who handled the sightseeing and activities, was knowledgeable and passionate. He organized an unforgettable series of experiences for us — including feeding, riding, and bathing with elephants in the river. It was a once-in-a-lifetime memory we’ll always treasure. The hotel’s setting is absolutely stunning. Our room, the infinity pool, and the in-house restaurant all overlooked the river — with elephants bathing and roaming freely right in front of us. Watching them from our balcony or while having a meal made each moment feel magical and deeply relaxing. The rooms were spacious, clean, and child-friendly. The food was delicious, and the restaurant staff were happy to adjust meals for our little one. If you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-connected, and family-friendly escape — this is the perfect place. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already thinking about our next visit. Highly recommended!

They are just the best! The hosts are super professional and extremely caring and hospitable! It felt like being with my family, whatever you need they take good care of their guests; if you need guidance, recommendation or transportation, just ask and they are here for it. I enjoyed my stay, loved the people their and I will definitely be back. BTW they have other hostels in Sri Lanka, ask about them.

It was a great stay. They upgraded our room to their chalet which was so spacious and comfortable. We could use the other hotel near Peacock for restaurant and pool and it had the best view of elephants in the river. They offered free drive between hotels making it very very easy to use facilities. Mr Andrew was deeply kind and helpful and we're thankful for the service.

I had a very comfortable stay at Suwani Pinnawala Homestay…. the room was clean, spacious, and well-furnished, with a spotless bathroom…. the hosts were exceptionally kind, especially the lady of the house, who went out of her way to prepare special vegetarian meals for me…. breakfast was excellent, and the homestay is conveniently close to the elephant bathing grounds. Highly recommended!

    Pinnawala basically has 4 main attractions therefore a maximum of 2 days is sufficient. The main attraction is the elephant orphanage. Related to that is the elephant bathing at the nearby river which is fascinating. Remember the ticket you purchase for the orphanage is required for the bathing so do both in the same day as the tickets technically only valid for the day (we did not know this so we went to the orphanage in the evening and went to see the bathing the next day.. however the kind ticket officers let us go). Then there is a mini zoo where animals roam in more space than usual. You can feed animals here which could be fascinating (for a small fee). Then there is a traditional village called Iparini Gama where you can experience live style of a traditional sri lankan village.

    Spectacular area to get up and close with elephants. Unique experience with elephants walking thru the village for their daily bathing. General accommodation facilities were good. Bars and eateries also of reasonable standard. We stayed at Grand Royal Pinnalanda and found this quite satisfactory in services and value.

    Amazing experience to watch the elephants bathing. A number of souvenir shops on the street and limited food options. We ate in our hotel. Shops don't stay open late as most tourists leave for the day. 1 night is enough.

    The staff were very obliging.

    The staff were very obliging. We arrived at 1am, this was not a problem and they greeted us warmly. Next morning we watched elephants in river from our balcony. The events coordinator took us to a place where we could walk and swim with elephants. He stopped on side of road on way back to try coconut milk. Wonderful staff. We found the breakfast not quite to European tastes.

    We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the complete hotel staff for their remarkable kindness and assistance, which undoubtedly enhanced our stay. We reserve special gratitude for Andrew, our tour guide, whose warm welcome and generous gesture of taking us on a village tour with his car left a lasting impression. Most notably, witnessing the elephants relishing their river bath was an extraordinary experience. The soothing sound of the river from our room added a truly relaxing touch to our stay.

    Very cozy, beautiful village house surrounded by nature. Comfortable, beautiful bed, all necessary accessories. Wonderful view of banana fields, various plants. Very nice, sincere, helpful hosts. The hosts grow a lot of different fruit near the house. Everywhere is amazingly clean. Very friendly manager Andrew. Delicious breakfast in the hotel, which is near Village Pinnawala. This village house is a refreshment for the soul!! We recommend 100 percent!! We will come back soon.

    The main treasure was the location and the view, possibility to observe unbelievably picturesque life of elephants sitting on the balcony. Breakfast excellent, food, cocktails, catering service - perfect. When arriving from the airport, the pool helps to adapt the hot climate we're not used to. Would suggest this hotel to begin the voyage in Sri Lanka - a very impressive start. The room was moderately clean, so the bathroom. Very comfortable bed.
