There are a few beautiful sights to visit, the area is very green and full of trees and wildlife. The waterfalls, hills and seven colored soils are worth seeing. The Zoo is nice, but you have to pay to see the lions and a few other areas are additional cost over the entrance ticket you pay. There are many small restaurants to eat at where you can try the local cuisine. It is best to hire a car and drive around yourself or to get a taxi from your hotel. with the help of google maps it is very easy to get around. Chamarel is a small cosy village which is not highly populated. So the houses are quite scattered and this gives the impression of space and lots of nature around. There are no supermarkets nor ATM, no sidewalks so you are out at your own risk amongst the crazy drivers. There is no good value place to stay in Chamarel so the attractions are best visited by sleeping somewhere else and renting a car.
