Beautiful, clean, not much traffic jam even though during holiday season, beautiful landscaping around waterfront of Sungai Raja, Dataran Alor Setar which is so happening at night and nice scenery during day time, beautiful historical building and great history for you to explore. Alor Star is a pleasant regional centre with some fine public buildings and an interesting old quarter. The open space in the centre of town with the Zahir mosque on one side and various royal buildings and museums on the other provides some excellent photo opportunities. There is a surprising amount of street art, some of it very good, and a pleasant canal-side walk starting in the centre of town. I came across an excellent night food market with stalls offering a range of local and international dishes. The Kedah Paddy Museum is billed as one of the attractions of Alor Setar, but I found it a bit disappointing.
