Kuala Lumpur’s Up-And-Coming Neighbour

Petaling Jaya has more going for it than just proximity to Kuala Lumpur, especially if you’re travelling with children. The Sunway Lagoon theme park comprises rollercoasters, a waterpark and zoo, while at Kidzania Kuala Lumpur children can try out adult careers.

Business is an important part of life and innovatively designed CBD skyscrapers rival those in the Malaysian capital. Petaling Jaya (or PJ as it’s known locally) has only existed since the 1950s and is linked to its more famous neighbour by buses, Kelana Jaya trains and several highways, one of which is spanned by the Kota Darul Ehsan Arch.

Although the 2 cities now form one huge urban sprawl, their boundary runs by several parks, one encompassing Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Monkeys roam free in Bukit Gasing Forest Park, and Kelana Jaya Lake is another leafy spot.

Shopping in PJ is another good reason to choose one of the city’s luxury hotels, guest houses and cheap motels on Booking.com. Aside from the night markets, The Curve is a modern shopping centre, and 1 Utama mall has a secret garden on the roof.

Other Petaling Jaya sights include Thai Wat Chetawan Buddhist temple, Sri Sithi Vinayagar Hundu temple and Jamek Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah mosque, named after the same statesman as domestic Subang Airport.

    The hotel does not offer breakfast but because of the excellent location, food is not a problem. There are cafes, bakeries, convenience stores and a shopping mall with a full range of facilities within walking distance, as well as fast food outlets and high-end restaurants. Because the area is a mix of commercial and residential, visitors pay local prices. Its central location is well served by public transport and even e-hailing services will find it easily accessible as Section 14 is one of the older, more settled areas of Petaling Jaya.

    The hotel is fairly new, spick and span. The facilities are all in working order. The border of the compound is built in such are a way you dont see your neighbors and I guess there cant see you either, providing privacy. Its located off the main road in I think a residential area. So its pretty quiet, real quiet. Its a nice place to relax. Affordable food is about 10/15 mins away by car.

    The hotel is very basic but the location is excellent for getting food and walking before it gets too hot) to the big mall etc. Its close to take a Grab cab to where you need to go without costing a fortune. The bed is decent and for a busy area it was quiet so I had a good night sleep. Staff on duty is friendly, approachable and helpful.
