For me the human-scale of the houses is Haarlem's greatest gift to the WORLD today and is the reason why I always come back as long as I can. Another attraction is that there are so many cute, little streets tucked away, so there are lots of places to walk through sampling the quiet charm which is NOT TOURISTY at all. A gem of a city.
A gem of a city. Easy to get to from Schipol, great bars, restaurants, independent shops. Lots to do, we had plenty to keep us entertained for our 2/3 days, with more still to see for a future trip. There was a supermarket very close by and also easy access to buses into Amsterdam. It was about a 1km walk to the train station, which was through the old town, which was lovely, but when we discovered the buses were so close this was the easier option to get to Amsterdam.
