Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.Guest review byAnthonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The new information centre and war memorial was fabulous.

Lovely little town!
Lovely little town! Well worth spending a day or two to check out all the natural attractions. The beaches in particular were rugged and secluded but relatively accessible. Would love to see it in the summer time!!Guest review byAnonymousNew Zealand
