Unfortunately it was raining at times and overcast so our helicopter flight to the glaciers was cancelled. We were given a full refund as the weather was out of our control. Nice little town.

We dined at the Landing restaurant.
We dined at the Landing restaurant. Very good, busy and lively atmosphere, with friendly service, many tables were reserved. Big platefuls of great food, so bring your appetite. Easy parking in Franz, as would be expected. Especially after QT!! The walk to the glacier viewing platform from the car-park shouldn't be underestimated for anyone who is infirm or unfit. But it's worth it for the view when you get there. The west coast road is delightful to drive. But note that there was road clearing operations which literally closed the road north of Haast for a couple of hours! Take heed of any warning signs!Guest review byMichaelNew Zealand - 8.0

The rooms are exceptionally clean and kept that way throughout our four day stay. We had ample coffee and tea making facilities and even enjoyed a complimentary chocolate treat. The hotel meals had a wide selection which meant my gluten intolerant partner had a good choice of options. The location is a short walk to the high street and walks out from Franz Josef so ideal.
