No microwave or shower, but the oven with all the pots and pans, and the bath with ample hot water, did the job equally as well and more authentic. Had an interesting chat with Bunny, who has been there all his very interesting life and which has been captured in a very interesting book. Managed a few chapters but will return for 2 nights within 12 months to finish the rest. I also enjoyed chatting to James the farm manager, a very friendly and amiable person. Good, honest country folk. The time there was one of those memorable experiences that I will always treasure.

Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. Taihape has a captive client base as everyone has to travel through there. McDonald's doesn't open till 10am for breakfast. There are various degrees or quality of food outlets. There is a good cheap fuel outlet which I think is Waitomo. We were directed to either subway or the roast shop beside it. The roast shop smelt heavily of cigarette smoke so we opted for subway which was clean and tidy. Taihape could do with more quality cafes. I go through often and normally target the army museum as my stop off point as the food is quality and predictable. Great resting place on our journey South and then again on our way North. We enjoyed being able to walk around the town and loved our time in the Brown Sugar Cafe. Taihape is a quaint quiet country town.
Taihape is a quaint quiet country town. The locals are a friendly lot and like to have a chat. I didn’t venture out much during my 2 days there but when I did,it was relatively easier to find my way around. This doesn't take away from the fact that the room was very clean, the double bed was very comfy, the shower was great. I stayed there for 2 nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
