Waimate is a little treasure trove, especially for family holidays With quite a number of parks ideal for walking, playing and exploring In summer the open air swimming pool is beautiful Quite a number of second hand shops to find all sorts of knick knacks And ideally situated between oamaru and timaru for further shopping Riverstone is just a drive away as well and definitely worth a stop but allow half a day so you can include a castle tour as well The people are super friendly too.

Very friendly and helpful staff at all the places we visited. Also love the refurbished tavern and bakery very nice in every aspect. Enjoyed our trip to the wallaby sanctuary and meeting Gwen - an exceptional lady full of character.

Victoria Park has a lot of things to look at like the wallabies, picnics , gardens & a playground for the children.. Also there are plenty of walks, & there is the white horse on the hill. There are shops in main center.

For us, it was a useful place to stay en route Dunedin to Christchurch. But now we realise it would be a good place to stay longer for day trips elsewhere and that it has an eco-sanctuary we would visit another time.

Hillview was a lovely place as was the surroundings.

Hillview was a lovely place as was the surroundings. There was a pub up the road that was very good and reasonably priced The mobile home was cosy and warm with everything you would need for your stay. There was also an outside area where you could sit and enjoy their beautiful garden. And the sunrise which was spectacular.

Tidy wide streets.Green green padocks .Relaxed friendly place. It did seem to have quite a few second hand clothing shops!! We did only spend one night there as we went to visit Dot's castle which was amazing. We also had a meal at Riverstone.
