Ollantaytambo is a gem of a town, my favorite so far of the Sacred Valley towns I have stayed in. The historic part of town feels like it must have felt with the Incas were living there in precolonial days. The streets are kept immaculately clean. Everything you might need is within short walking distance but does not intrude on the authenticity of the town. The views of the Inca ruins on all sides take you back in time. I would gladly go back for a longer stay. The constant flow of large tourist vans down the main street can be a bit annoying as they don't seem to belong, but you can avoid this. Strongly recommend to stay in the city instead of doing your...
Strongly recommend to stay in the city instead of doing your Machu Picchu trip from Cusco directly. It would be much less tiring and the city of Ollantaytambo is very cosy and comfortable. Specially if you are coming from outside Cusco and flying in, my recommendation to fly into Cusco and go straight to Ollantaytambo, stay here and visit Machu Picchu. Following by this, go back to Cusco for your stay and fly back. This was a good way we thought to beat the potential high altitude sickness.Guest review byParthUnited Arab Emirates - 10
Ollantaytambo is a very interesting place in itself.
Ollantaytambo is a very interesting place in itself. It can also be used as a starting point to visit Machu Picchu and other interesting archeological sites around. It's about 2 hours from Cusco by taxy.Guest review byReinaldoArgentina - 10

We were also recommended a restaurant when we were hungry and looking for something to eat, and their recommendation was excellent: the Mawic restaurant.
