About 90% of excursions were water related activities and if that’s not your passion it’ll take a bit of effort to find nature, culture options. What I didn’t like as a solo traveler is that Viator tours were mainly required a couple/2 person minimim booking. Thankfully booking.com excursions was a life saver. Most restaurants are closed between 2-5 pm so keep that in mind. I’m not a foodie so I didn’t explore the fine dining options. Papeete lacks a robust night life, it’s more a “get away from real life” and relax that caters to water sports types. Papeete is a dump! We expected more from the French. Very 3rd world, unsafe water, no sidewalks, trash and graffiti abounds, bums begging, dirty drainage canals, and for this you are charged extremely high prices for everything! Bora bora wasn't much better... Moorea was nice. We took a cruise to the Marquesas and Tuamotus which were still unspoiled and gorgeous with genuine natives. Papeete itself is very bland and the market is over-rated (in my opinion). I wished I had planned properly and spent few nights at Moorea, but I didn't know what to expect. Rookie mistake 🫣 Lessons learnt. Despite mixed advice from the locals, I felt safe walking at night, which is a positive outlook for the Island 🙏 As many reviewers have mentioned, Papeete is only a good stopover to the other islands 🏝 😀 The 2 highlights of my stay was the day trip to Moorea, doing the safari excursions and the cultural night at the InterContinental Hotel.Guest review byLeeAustralia - 10.0

Over-all it was great. We spent 7 days on Tahiti, plus a half-day excursion on Moorea. 5 days on Tahiti would probably be enough. Next time we will visit a couple of others islands for a few days. Good food and shopping in Papeete.Guest review byMurphyUnited States - 6.0

Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all. I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket. We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip. She even invited me on a boat trip! The apartment was excellent, very comfortable, very clean, well equipped and had everything I needed for my stay. The internet worked wonderfully. Some people wrote in past reviews that the hill was really steep. I did not find this at all. All I can say is that those people must have been really unfit! I would definitely stay here again. He delivered us to the apartments and provided a good explanation. Also dropped us to and picked us up from our cruise ship and finally he dropped us out to the airport when we left Papeete.
