FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything a city of this scale needs: a fascinating history, great architecture and a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town, Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down the Communist rule in Poland initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the near-complete destruction during the World War II. The colourful town houses of the Old Town can be admired by boat on the Motlawa River or enjoyed while strolling along the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and you make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city centre.

    Such a beautiful city!

Such a beautiful city! Really old buildings, so much history and uniqueness. Check out one of three carillons on top of a tower, and hear them play some tunes. Very walkable old town, plus Sopot (great beach) and Gdynia (tall ships, oceanarium) accessible by local trains (SKM). Did you know Fahrenheit was born in Gdańsk? There's also a 500 year old astronomical clock in the main Cathedral. A basement restaurant just behind/below the Neptune fountain and Artus Court was incredible, inexpensive, and has its own brewery on site too (Piwnica Rajców). Enjoy.

I’ve probably been to Gdańsk a dozen times, and I still discover something new on each visit. It’s about 20 minutes by taxi from the international airport. I try to stay close to the Old Town so I can be there within minutes. It’s a lovely place for a stroll along the historic streets, to listen to the bells and soak up the city’s old-world charm. There are countless museums both in and just outside the centre. Honestly, they’re all worth a visit — from the Town Hall and St Mary’s Church with its breathtaking viewing platform, to smaller niche museums, and the grand, historically significant ones like the Museum of the Second World War and the European Solidarity Centre. Plan half a day for each of those big hitters, ideally on separate trips to this wonderful city. I’d also recommend a cruise on one of the schooner-style boats. They head to the port, where you can see vast ships on the shipyard slipways and a variety of vessels from around the world loading in Gdańsk’s harbour — a mesmerising sight. If you get chilly, they serve hot mulled wine on board to warm you up in grim weather. Shoppers will find plenty of malls to enjoy. There are loads of restaurants, including Michelin-recognised spots where you can have an unforgettable meal with a bird’s-eye view over Gdańsk by night. Nearby Sopot and Gdynia are just 20–30 minutes away by taxi; each deserves its own write-up. There’s a zoo not far from the city for children, and history lovers can use a car-sharing service to visit Malbork Castle — the largest in Europe — with engaging exhibitions and an amber museum. Come December, the city turns into a Christmas fairy tale. If you’re lucky enough to be in Gdańsk for Christmas, the carved townhouses dusted with snow, the festive spirit, and the big Christmas market by the old city gates will win you over. Gdańsk is a place you’ll want to come back to.

Gdańsk is a beautiful city with many interesting places to visit that are easy to walk to. Plenty of choice for cafes and restaurants centrally. Short trips, for example, Malbork Castle are also easily reached by car. We have visited twice and still not seen everything.

Having travelled to many parts of Poland in the past I was a little sceptical when our walking tour guide told us Gdansk is the best Polish city to visit I was wrong. The city is a real jewel and well worth visiting, with a rich history, interesting architecture and museums and some great restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend a city break there and a walking tour, along with a river cruise and the WW2 museum.

This is lovely city.Transport is perfect, shops well situated. Old Town is gem so well managed, very clean, plenty of places to get meal,or cup of coffee with cake.So much to visit,my trip was business, but 4 hours walk in Old Town, gave me so much information ,about historical place .I am Polish living in UK 35 years and now very proud what we have and our tradition. Will be back, thinking to rent place for longer.

Gdansk is a small but beautiful city with a good choice of reasonably priced restaurants. A great place for a romantic weekend strolling along the cobblestoned streets, stopping along to warm up in one of the many cafe's. Just enough sights to keep it interesting, but not so many that you'll be overwhelmed trying to check them all off. If you have time, go to Malbork and see the biggest castle in the world. Many major European cities have regular direct connections, and Gdansk Airport is just a 20-minute taxi ride from the old-city. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Clean and spacious apartment includes everything you need for a comfortable stay. Situated in great location - easy access to public transport, shops and cafes. Walkable distance to old town, museums, shopping malls and lots of atractions. Super contact with the owner, quick replies and clear instructions how to get in. The extra bonus is an electric fireplace which was absolutely my favourite part of the evening! I would be more than happy to stay here again while next time in Poland!
